Greddy bov not blowing off loud at all?

I just put in a greddy bov. I have the stock intake so it wont be to loud but this is barely even noticeble at all you have to actually listen for it. Im assuming its a leak or something but i dont think so because there isnt anything i can hear or see that would leak.

Do i need to take out on of the springs or adjust the actually bov?

Nope that is the way the Greddy BOV works with the stock box. If you want sound you will need to open up the top of your intake box or Vent To Air (not recommended).

Yes, take all the springs out and replace with ground beef. It'll REALLY open up the sound.

Oh you must have forgotten to take off the "rice proof" seal. They're a lot like the caps on bottles of aspirin that give kids and old people a hard time.

replace the stock airbox with a good intake and you,ll hear it, btw you,ll need a re-flash with the intake because you will probably be running much leaner

Its pretty sad that the only person with any real advice to give the kid is the "newbie".... after 3 posts from so called "members"..PATHETIC!! the flaming is getting kinda old guys so if you have nothing to say that will help this kid then do us all a favor and DONT post!!!! thanks Danny for not being a dick and helping billy answer his question... you 2 (kwman, urban_dk) are an embarrassment to EvoM.

EDIT- i think APS has a BOV that does both recirculates and vents

From what I understand, the greddy type s plugs right into where the stock recirculation is... I dont know much about this bov, but if you can turn it, unplug it from the hose and turn it and plug up the hose that the bov connected to. Then you'll vent to atmosphere and it'll be really loud.. BUT you might run ****ty (really rich and bog on quick shifts and have a ****ty idle). From what I understand, this is because the MAF sensor reads how much air is going into your engine and the ecu already gets a set air/fuel mixture determined because of that. But once you blow off into the air, you'll blow off some of the air that's already been accounted for and end up with a rich mixture... which in some cases, flood your engine with fuel. If you got an HKS SSQV, i think those kits come with this little cap u put on the stock hose if you wanna blow off in the air. They also come with a little recirculation fitting to blow back into the car. But honestly, if you are going to pay money for an aftermarkket bov and then want to recirculate it, you might as well have stuck with a stock one bceause they are just as good and dont cost 200+ bucks... also they both wont make noise. Hope that answers your question. It's your car, you can do whatever you want to it if it makes you happy.

btw: if you really want to blow off in the air safely, I believe AEM has some sort of MAF delete and probally has something to convert your car to a MAP.

This is a performance oriented forum, topics such as these will be ridiculed. If you want to have a louder blow off valve, here are your options:

1.) vent to the atmosphered (NOT RECOMMENDED, you will lose a noticeable amount of power by doing this)
2.) Use a metal intake pipe (will increase horsepower by a slight amount if used with in conjunction with a high flow filter)
3.) Use a blow through GM maf translator-sensor setup (warning, they don't work so well on EVO's yet) so that you can vent to the atmosphere and not lose any performance by running too rich

i dunno about evos, but my 240 (skyline engine) ran like crap at idle when blowing off atmospheric when I tried it (more for ****s and giggles than anything). I believe HKS EIDS or whatever it's called can smooth out the idle quite a bit, but does'nt quick solve the top end problems... BUt then you're paying a ****load of money just for a sound that serves no purpose other than let people know you have turbo, if they did'nt already figure it out from the FMIC and the fact that it's an evo..

if you want to hear it, just get a k&n drop in filter with the stock airbox. It wont be loud, but defently noticable, whoosh/whistle, and DEFINATLY keep it recirculated

Well , a "good intake" is the stock box so that wasnt very good advise, just wasting money unless u have at least 375 + wheel hp. A "good intake" as he says will make u minamal hp and just make alot of noise. And the so called "members" give stupid responses because a search would have probably answered his question. But also remember just because they are "evolved members" dont mean they know anything, just that they post alot

ok my rant is done

I am an embarassment to Evom? Listen buddy, I have close to 2k posts now, majority of which contain information and actually helpful posts. I respond to GOOD QUESTIONS regarding performance issues and problem solving along with theoretical statements and the mathematics behind tuning. Anything short of a good question will get a humorous response and you need to grow tougher skin if you want to last on this forum or any forum. When you ask me a question about how to make your blow off valve louder, when running a stock airbox, and recirculating, then you my friend should be doing research and using the "search" function first. DO NOT insult me for providing what I believed to be humor, someone took pity and answered your friend, that person was not me so get the hell over it and move on.

You are speaking of the standalone AEM EMS. This is not a step the poster needs to take at this point. I am currently running the AEM EMS on a speed density setup and it requires the usage of either a 3.5 bar MAP sensor or 5bar map sensor along with a GM IAT sensor. All this along with the AEM and a decent tune, will run you about 2400 dollars if you dont install it yourself. Secondly somone who wants a louder BOV is also implying that they drive their car on the street alot, so you'll wnat to pass emissions and have the car inspected, but you cant do that with the AEM. If you really want to spend all that money for basically a loud woosh sound, be my guest. But the MAF and recirculating is good enough for you.
