How long ago did you get your mail in flash? I had the custom tune done and so far I put about 12,000 miles on the car with the flash. No weard things happening yet.
Does tunning the car in very cold weather affect it later when it's hot out side?

whats wrong with his 5w30?
nothing is wrong with 5w30... but "extended life" oil that mobil one sells is not for turbocharged cars. If its the normal mobil one its ok but the one that says "extended life" should not go near our engines.
That's what I meant lol.. Look over me I've been working on the EVO all day and I'm pretty wore out.... It just makes me wonder because a buddy of mine has started using it in his car :x
you were running way too lean up top with that flash...you were at 12:1 at 6800, probably even leaner at 7k+...I hope you didn't take your car up there too much. I wonder why Al tuned it that lean since he is usually at 11.0
There's getting to be too many Evos spinning rod bearings these days...and most of the ones I've heard of have been Dynoflashed
Very sorry to hear of your troubles. What are you planning to do at this point?

Man, first of all that really blows. I feel for you.
few questions though: What kind of A/F meter did you have and what were your AFR's during this tragedy? Second, what boost have you been pushing and is it stable, taper and/or spike etc? How do you have your MBC hooked up( there are at least two ways that I know of)? Where do you have your boost guage line hooked up?
Just a few questions to maybe shed some light into what might have gone wrong. I wouldn't start pointing any fingers at tuning before you figure these and other things out first.

Did your hose pop off of your wastegate or anywhere between your wastegate and vacuum source,or did it have a hole in the hose.By the way you are describing what happened it seems that your wastgate actuator was not working at all, stuck in the closed position, high boost at very low throttle positions would create problems.Lets NOT start blaming a flash if using a MBC
as it would not be what is controlling the boost.Lets wait to hear what went wrong before we begin to point fingers.

The a/f coming off the dyno could be wrong, I know when i dynoed torquefreaks had a bad sniffer and it was saying some cars were in the 14s and 13s. Id say the only true source would be an onboard wideband.
Also I would never wait 5000miles to change my oil, its a high performance car, atleasts change it at 3000miles.
I wouldnt put the blame on dynoflash because i remember a car doing the same thing on shivs dyno.

12:1 af's is pretty lean.... maybe you beat your rod bearings into submission over time due to detonation, coupled with a fresh oil filter and oil change (in cold weather), and I can see where you could have wiped a bearing on initial start after the oil change. Once the tolerances between the rod bearing and crank were widened, it was history from there.
Best of luck to you.

Hope you have a warranty
