Yes, I can humble myself, I don't know everything about my car or clutches.

Take one Cusco Twin Disk, Throw in 23k miles of use, Add in my naievity, and what do you get? An engineer that thinks the idle rattle is his tranny when it's actually his clutch. Apparently when Twin disks are new they're silent at idle, but when they get some age and use to them the tolerances open up and they'll talk to you at idle. I didn't see how this was possible and I was still a skeptic. So I called 5 other shops and confirmed this. I felt like a fool for getting so angry, and like a fool for sending my tranny out for repair of a problem that wasn't in the tranny.

This past weekend I have been thinking about this thread alot and ive pretty much convinced my self that i too need a rebuild to fix the noise my trans is making .
Iam at a point where the idle rattle and decel noise is killing me piece by piece ever day . So iam very glad you updated us . So after your rebuild the ratttle is still there but what about the decel noise , has it got any better or stayed the same also ?

Thanks

Both idle and decel rattle are still there, however they are quieter than they were. My 5th gear was rattleing too, so I eliminated one of the sources.

I'll make this easy on you ... GO BUY A DUCATI! and then tell me all about dry multi-plate clutch rattle.

Now that you've been through a few of tranny removals from the EVO, may I field couple of questions for you?

1.) How high do you jack your EVO for the removal?
2.) Where do you, and how do you place your jackstands?
3.) How do you lower and raise the tranny into position?

Short answers are fine, as I'm trying to get a better idea on how to best get the tranny out of the EVO as a DIYer.

Cheers,
~j.

I just took my trans/tcase out last weekend and sent it to Jon

1.) About 15 inches was plently for me
2.) under the framerail, and in the back i put the jack under the rear diff, and the stands on the rear trailing arms? (not sure the name of this part) look under there and u will understand.
3.) some1 big with another person and manhandle it down.
