Stock Evo Ix Mr Boost Questions!

hey everyone,

i already did a search and im batting zero!

my question is this:

i have a completely 100% stock EVO IX MR with 8600 miles on her

since the day i got her, the stock boost gauge has read the same, but im not sure if it's right or if the car is right for that matter.

here is what the car reads:

if im in 3rd gear at 3500 rpms and give full throttle the stock guage spikes to about 1.2 bar real fast and holds 1.0-1.1 bar until redline, with very minor taper

if im in 4th gear at 3500 rpms and give full throttle the stock gauge spikes to about 1.3 bar real fast and holds 1.1 bar until redline and tapers to 1.0 bar

but...if im in 5th or 6th gear at 3500 rpms and give full throttle the stock gauge spikes to 1.4 bar and holds about 1.3 bar all the way to just before redline, where is tapers down to about 1.1

my real question is, WHY does my car make different amounts of boost in different gears

why does my car only hold 1.0-1.1 bar (according to the ghetto stock guage) in 3rd and 4th, but hold more in 5th or 6th

1st and 2nd gear are kind of the same as 3rd and 4th, harder to watch it, since the rpms rise fast

ONLY COMMENT ON THIS THREAD IF YOU HAVE AN EVO IX and KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT!

thanks

matt

is my car normal? should i not worry? or what?
car hasnt been dynoed or tracked to test and i havent used a better boost gauge to test either.

I don't see how you could search and find nothing when what you are describing is normal for every stock Evo in existence. There is more load in higher gears, so you see a little bit higher boost. Your boost tapers, because the ECU has been programmed to make the boost taper. This is why we get MBCs and flashes...

I actually was searching for this and couldnt find as good info mm just posted. Thanks, I had an idea from the other posts but you just laid it out. My car only does 1.2 in fourth, and 1.3 in fifth. So im lower then you, youre at a higher altitude too. Or is that how it works Im gonna put a mbc on soon, this should help that problem right? Sorry to hijack your thread but I think you may be interested too.
