how does the boost actually work on the ix's
hey guys i am a new owner of a wicked white evo ix mr. this car is amazing to drive and turns lots of heads. before i get flamed, yes i already used the search function to look what im looking for and i failed. well i was wondering how boost actually works on these cars like where am i suppose to get 1.5bars of boost like at what rpm. and like it is 1.5 bars constantly because i heard it drops down where it gets to redline. i'm still at the breaking in period and the stock gauges for the mr are like at the worst position ever. thanks
I agree about the gauge positioning. You shouldn't see 1.5 bar, but closer to 1.3 at around 3500rpm.. In 3rd or 4th gear and WOT. Then it falls to about 1.1 by redline. Hope you are keeping it below 5krpm if you're just breaking it in though.
yep im keeping it under or at 5rpm, i accedentally went to 6 once because i was too busy looking at those gauges because it didn't seem to be boosting at 1.5 so i was scared i got boost leak already. when your saying that at wot at 3rd or 4th gear i should show 1.5bar?

No, he is saying that under WOT, peak boost is 20psi, or almost 1.5 bars, but then falls to 1.1-1.3 bars about 16 psi at redline. The gauges are positioned poorly, but to me a boost gauge is almost like an A/F gauge on a N/A car. Just for looks. When you start modding, i would suggest doing an aftermarket in a better place, or swap the guages with the radio and move the boost guage all the way to the left position.
Congrats on the white MR, it was either that one, or the Phoenix red one. Went with that one instead.

my IX MR stock does this:
3rd and 4th gear holds about 1.1 bar on the mitsu stock guage
5th and 6th gear holds about 1.3 bar and tapers to around 1.1-1.2
not sure why i hold less boost in 3rd and 4th then 5th or 6th...

yep i get about the same thing on my stock ix mr. i wonder if its just the gauges or thats the way the ix's actually boost. well if its not its under warranty and my school is like 10 mins away from south coast mitsubishi. but if that 405 is clear maybe 5 mins

once your car hits peak boost, it won't hold. Unless you get your car tuned to hold at peak pessure or any pressure for that matter.
Since you haven't accelerated over 5k, it's really hard to boost to 1.5. Remember, the full spool of the turbo isn't an on/off light switch with respect to on/off throttle engagment. The turbine wheel is constantly spinning at slower speeds and uses current momentum to spin faster. So basically, in a stock car, you can't hit 1.5 in 1st gear from a standing start and it's easier to hit 1.5 coming off a high boost from 3rd or 4th, then upshift and try not to loost the boost to the next gear. Once you loost the boost, it's hard to build it back up again, so you have to be quick. Give it a try. Don't forget, you also might need to go wide-open-throttle.
Sometimes I'm successful in hitting peak in 4th or 5th. Just be careful about your speed, redline 4th is pretty fast and chances are you're speeding.

Seriously! You're at max boost for a couple of seconds and you're already 20-30mph over the speed limit. The street is definately a hard to place to check for boost levels
peak boost is at 20 psi?? lol. That's news to me... on my IX, on hot days, i peak at 17psi and cold i peak at 19psi... is my boost gauge off? It's a mechanical gauge that i ran off the fuel pressure regulator.

19-20 psi of boost is what i reach. Also, if you do a search or look at reviews, they found the same thing. And, it does make a difference whether it is hot and humid or cold and dense. It all depends on the air temp as well. I am stating peak boost off the factory turbo.
