I have stock EVO4 turbo. I'm looking at a 5 turbo or a 9turbo. Would there be much difference between the two?

Would there be much difference between the two?... Yup there's a significant difference in flow rate & performance between the E5 and E9 turbos.

I have stock EVO4 turbo... Is your 4G63 from an Evo 4 or is it only the turbo?

If your engine, ECU and harness are all "Evo 4" then it's not a simple upgrade.
An E4 has smaller injectors, different ECU, harness & "pin-outs" etc. etc.
All these would need to be changed to suit the model of turbo you select.

<-- check the sig 96 evo4. it's all evo4. I could swap the turbo for an evo5 turbo or an evo9 turbo. Physically they both have a lighter turbine and wider inlet/outlet I believe. I'm only talking about the turbo itself not the comparison of the cars.
The 9 costs more than the 5, so I'm wondering if the upgrade from 4to5 vs 4to9 is much different.

Wanted to attach the Evo 6 - 9 boost control system comparison.

This will prove to be very useful for questions about max boost and taper on a stock Evo.

The 9 costs more than the 5, so I'm wondering if the upgrade from 4to5 vs 4to9 is much different.
It's more than just swapping in a bigger turbo...
Bigger turbo = More air-flow = "Lean" A/F mixture = Bigger injectors needed...

IIRC E5-E9 injectors can't fit the E4 ECU/harness combo, so an E5-E9 ECU swap would be needed... The E4 ECU has different harness "pin-outs", so an E5-E9 harness (to suit the appropriate model of turbo & injectors) would be req'd also... or an aftermarket (Power FC?) ECU could be used instead.

My $0.02¢

Question Max output for evo 6 gsr turbo?

Hi my name is matt im from australia and i have a 1999 evo 6 gsr. My current setup is stock turbo, stock injectors, stock cams, stock manifold, stock piping (from throttle body to turbo outlet.

Upgrades:

255 walbro fuel pump
New lifters
3" intake pipe into compressor side.
3" inside diametre turbo back exhaust.
Grimspeed 3 port boost solenoid
Full retune.

Results: 285 awhp @ 405Nm. (24psi tapering to 21psi)

Reason i am asking this is it seems like from the upgrades i have done i should at least be hitting 300hp+ but i am not. I believe that a full intake pipe kit with the upgraded cast turbo outlet will eliminate any other restriction since to my research the standard turbo i have (td05hr 16g 10.5t) has a max output of between 340-360hp @22 psi). Let me know your thoughts

I'm no mechanic or 'pro' tuner but here goes... OEM parts are all 16 years old and subject to wear.
Unless you MUST stay OEM, IMHO I would change worn parts with mild upgrades if I had to spend significant $$$ to repair anything.

1999 Evo 6 GSR... Setup is stock turbo, ~ injectors, ~ cams, ~ manifold, ~ piping (from throttle body to turbo outlet)...

1) stock turbo... Check for wear/play on shaft... or damage to impeller/compressor blades.
If worn, upgrade to 'FP Green' if your budget allows.
turbo i have (td05hr 16g 10.5t) has a max output of between 340-360hp @22 psi)... IMHO this may only be relevant after a short-block rebuild.
Unlikely to get that output with a 16 year old engine. (btw ALWAYS use torque plate when you rebuild.)

2) Timing belt/Valve timing... Check cam & belt alignment to make sure that valve timing is correct.

3) stock piping... Have you checked/changed the stock fabric hoses?
They are 16 years old now and will suffer from "ballooning" under boost.
That may be enough to cause changes to your A/R... and torque & power output.

4) stock injectors... Ship injectors to fuel injection company for cleaning.

UPGRADES:
If upgrading turbo or cams, upgrade to larger injectors based on turbo supplier's recommendations.

5) stock cams... Upgrade to OEM Evo 8 cams... or slightly better aftermarket cams.

Cheers for that

I have checked for play in the turbo
there is none

I have decided to go with GSC S2 274/274 cams. New springs, retainers, valves. Then retune.

I have ordered a full set of hard pipes from throttle body to turbo outlet.

Aparently i need new spark plug leads i havnt noticed any misfires yet though...

Does anyone know which turbo does the Evolution IX FQ340 have?
Is it the one with the Magnesium Alloy?
