HKS 264 Cam Timing

Hi Team,

I have done some searching and read most of the info on cam timing I could find and have found most of it is in relation to the HKS 272 cam timing and in particular silver surphers thread.

I have chosen the 264's due to my auto x bias. I was wondering if the settings being experimented with the 272's (-3,-3) ( -4,-1.5) are also relevant to the 264's.

Also if anyone has feedback on what cam timing is netting the best results with the 264's that would be appreciated.

HKS264? thats old already, who said HKS272 is not good for autox? leave the cam gear setting at 0,0 that is the best, don't waste your time.

Thanks.. really helpful..

Never said the 272 cant be used for autocross but was implying I had selected the 264 due to their earlier spooling and strong low to mid torque and power characteristics as opposed to the more mid to top end power of the 272.

Why are cam gears set at 0,0 best?? If you are going to do this, why bother having the adjustment of the cam gears in the first place??

Seemed that there were some very different charateristics avaiable by from adjusting the cam timing on the 272's. Was keen to know if anyone had found similar results with the 264's

Per Vishnu, retarding timing on both cams (-2,-2) should make the engine less detonation prone, allowing for more boost to be run safely without envoking timing retard..

I have 272i and 264e and autox twice a month, with
good results from a -3,-3 setting.

For autocross, if the revs will drop to less than 4000rpm anywhere on the course, I wouldn't touch a retarded timing configuration, such as -2/-2. That improves peak power slightly, but at the expense of midrange torque and spool time.

For 264s and even 272s, I would opt for +1/-1, or possibly even +2/0. The result is quicker spool, fast transient response, and a significant bump in the midrange torque peak. If getting in and out of corners is what you're after, this is what you want.
