Exedy triple carbon= BAD

How could this be?

I just recieved word from the shop my car is at. I thought my transfer case was taking a dump on me but they have taken everything out and confirmed my Exedy triple carbon is toast. WTF!

It has only been in the car for less than 10K miles and I have only been to the track 3 times and only launched it less than maybe 15 times.

I only had 360whp when it was originally installed and recently in the past few months I upgraded parts and redynoed 430whp.

There is no reason a $3,000 clutch should be bad with less than 15 launches on it and less than 10K miles.

I only went to the track 3 times, thats all, only 3 times!

1st track event I launched it maybe 5 times.

2nd track event I launched it 3 times.

3rd track event I launched it 6 times.

I honestly only launched it 4 times on the street and that was with my AEM tuner in the car setting up some parameters.

Anybody else had this issue?

It must have been a lemon, contact Exedy and see if you can work something out. Because yes ..That is quite rediculous.

This just baffles me!

The shop has documented everything so hopefully Exedy will cover this. I can't imagine buying a $3,000 clutch and its toast in 5-6 months.

the reason its bad is because you dont drive the car hard.....the carbon needs to be hot to create the friction it needs. all carbon clutches will go bad fast if they dont get the heat they need.

Emery, where in my post did I describe how I drive the car? Exactly! Don't ASSume you know how I drive.

When I'm at the track in the staging lane, I slip the clutch just like Exedy says to on their website.

Hopefully Exedy takes care of you. Do you think it could have been installation error?

No clue. TopSpeed has been doing clutch installs for a long time so I don't think that is the issue, but anything is possible I guess.

The strange thing is, wouldn't I smell the clutch if it was starting to go?

You would think I would have smelled the clutch a little and I never did.

I told you it was the clutch.

You wouldn't smell it if you weren't burning discs, and carbon discs don't smell the same as stock clutch discs anyway.

There are lots of things that can go wrong in clutches, they should be able to tell you more specifically where the clutch failed.

get a tilton.

If its the clutch, shouldn't they cover it under some type of failure warranty?

Why would you put in such an expensive clutch in the first place?

Even if they don't offer a warranty you dam well better make them cover it. Tell them your stock factory OEM clutch held up better then their premier top of the line clutch.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. The carbon is probably fine, but the metal discs are probably toast.

Refer to this post.
