I helped a friend do a temp test I while ago on a 84 degree weather (when the test ended) with a cheap mercury thermometer and 1 hour drive. Result:

The thermometer out top of the maf - busted/melted.

The one on the air duct showed 82 degree.

Wow.... people are WAY to serious about dynos now a days.

This is a joke. For one thing, the big fan in front of the car is no where CLOSE to the real air that would be pushed through the hood. In fact, the hole in our hood dramatically helps airflow through the engine bay making the air pretty cool in front of the intake at normal speeds.

Secondly, who cares? ANY power that someone could think of making by pulling thier hood off would be completely destroyed by the wind resistance your car would make with the hood.

For a good thought about heat and under hood temps I went to the track the other day and hot lapped one of my cars. Started with a cool under hood, trapped at 128.2, then hot lapping it about 5 times the trap was 128.9. All the runs that day were in the 128.xx range. The under hood temps while stopped went up over 50 degrees from the first run.
