Not good crackling noise on occassion

soo... after launching the car today, I'm wondering if the dealer is right (possibility of T.C. going bad)... I drove the car a little hard and now there is an occassional crackling noise. The best I can describe it would be stepping on a drive leaf. When this happens, the car loses power; meaning, it slows down a bit (bogs).

It doesnt even happen often, but it scares me.. I checked to see if anything was rubbing on the tires, i drove it around a bit and boosted it (runs great, pulls hard as normal), pulled the wheels off and checked Axles for play, checked steering rack, looked at out side of T.C. for the heck of it, searched the turbo for shaft play... NOTHING.

Is it possible that the ring & Pinion in the TC is doing this?...Maybe the rear end?
It only happens on occassion. Odd. I'm not entirely sure the T.C. is goign bad though. I've read so many threads where ppl complain about whining at partial throttle only (my case) and in fact it's more of a lite wissle than a whine, and loudest at partial throttle..

Is this my T.C. failing you think??? I've put appx 3k miles on the car since I was warned.

Seriously though, I've heard that could be the sound of a TC going bad

"standing on a leaf" or " crumpling up aluminium foil" (like the stuff you use in a kitchen for wrapping sandwiches, food for the fridge etc.

associated with loss of power - if the above is happening in conjuction with each other then I would say that sound like DETONATION!!!

DET sounds exactly like "standing on a leaf" or " crumpling up aluminium foil" sound coming from the engine bay.

that is it will only be det if you are under power and hear that sound - if not happening together then its something else.

what fuel / boost you running? might have a bad tank of fuel

Mike

That's what I was afraid of.. I had a feeling it might be diff related.
Anyways, It happened to make the crackling noise at a stop light tonight. I slowwly pulled off the light and it crackled for a sec. Still think it is diff related or does this change things???

Also, What would you reccommend doing?

I would still have the same diagnosis. I was split until you said it crackles under left hand turns, that is a stereotypical destroyed front diff.

I would recommend replacing it, and try to launch less.
