Intake for an EVO IX

People, you must realize that the HKS filters suck ***** for less. There have been tests to prove that. I use the k&n drop-in but from what I have seen and read, the AC Delco is the best filter on the market!? Who knew?

Its simply a funny character I made up named Wade.
Wade is a wanna be tuner that thinks he knows everything and talks down to ppl and cries all day about searching and why you said this or that.
I'm sure Warrtalon and everyone else on the forums will agree this is not even close to being a reference to him.
Cheers!

Here's what I don't understand - why lie? Just be honest about your motives and let thing fall where they may.
I think this is a issue that reaches beyond its surface. If we, as a community, allow folks to blatantly post deceptive and fictitious messages, how is one to trust the technical posts that may put one's pride and joy (ie. the Evo) in dire straits?
I apologize for the somewhat off-topic posts.

A straight through intake actually makes a bit of power over the stock airbox largely dependant on what modifications you have. Under stock boost conditions and with the stock turbo (as the airbox is designed for), the stock airbox is more than adequate as an intake. In fact it's probably superior because it isolates the intake air from under-hood temperatures.
However for the modified, especially the upgraded turbo car, the stock airbox is sort of retarded - air makes a 90 and a 180 degree turns before entering the turbo. This coupled with the stock accordian turbo inlet hose makes for a rather restrictive design for big power cars.
The reason many tuners do not recommend aftermarket intakes is that most of these intakes end up requiring MAF recalibration. Often times an additional 30-60min of tuning is required just to sort out the intake. At $199/hour to gain say 7whp and 5ft/lbs for the average customer it's not very cost effective (and a PITA for the tuner). Therefore we generally recommend that our customers avoid getting an aftermarket intake as its often times not cost effective. However not cost effective is different than not making power at all.

Well here is my expierence guys, again who ever want to take it witha grain of salt. I ran a 12.66 the other day w/just TBE, LICP and MBC-untuned.
Then because i was a little curious and inpatient I bought an intake (HPF's), and went to the track...my best was a 12.9 and i was shifting at the same time and launched the same but my 60's were also down from a 1.88 to 1.95 so... but the cars runs like @$$ now and i think i lost power. I'm going to get a falsh from al sometime SOON and will see if that helps... hope this helps, learn from my mistakes... the cars not even fun to drive now.

06evofiji, of course the flash will help, but why don't you do the smart thing and REMOVE THE INTAKE? Then, go tell HPF to stop selling people intakes without an associated tune. Btw, what did you mean by "inpatient"? What does buying an intake have to do with that? You knew you wouldn't gain any power, but if you had spent that same money on a basic $199 flash, you would have gained 30-40whp.

IMHO, I would never get an intake even if I got tuned for it. I have not a clue why people would spend 300 bucks on a intake then another 200 for a tune to gain no hp from a aftermarket intake-the added hp is from the tune not the intake. Aftermarket intakes do NOT give you hp if anything you get decreased hp.
Now, as far as the hks filter being better than a k&n well thats just retarded. Like warr just beautifully put it the hks isnt even reusable(meaning you cant reclean it and use it again). And the hks doesnt flow as much as the k&n does. However, the k&n is also reusable and it has its own recharger kit specifically designed for their filters. The only thing you have to do is make sure you dont oil it too much because it will cause the MAF problems.
The smartest thing for anyone to do is NOT get any aftermarket intake.

Yeah I know guys...warr, what I meant is that I could have had a tune but have to wait for shipping and all that so I made an impulse buy like an idiot. However it only cost $180, not 300 Skilmatic.
Also when I was taking the stocker off I stripped out One of the bolts that connect the Maf and the box so I have to keep it on otherwise I would have pulled it off.
But I may try to salvage something because GPMOTO here in portland is going to build me a 35r kit for free and then mass produce it afterward so maybe I can use it for that.
Thanks for the advice guys, know anyone who wants to buy an intake??? lol

K&N Panel Filter
"Fits in the stock air box. No worries install. This filter does not affect the air filter ratio and needs no additional tuning. Part of our lower price Stage Eleventeen Package and is totally happy making up to 400 hp at the wheels."
