What to do next

Hey guys im at a point where im not sure what to do next and was just looking for some suggestions of what i should do powerwise. right now i have these mods:

3" tbe
aem short ram intake
greddy type s bov
rnr fmic and piping
electronic boost controller
s-afc
660cc injectors
255 fuel pump

Im gonna go with some hks 272 cams and cam gears as well but what else should i do? Also what kind of turbo do you guys recommend, i want something with low spool because i do a lot of canyon racing and track racing, not too big on the drag racing. I want in the range of 500-600hp and i only want to use 91 octance with the occasional 100 oct/ no meth or anything of the sort. thanks guys

500-600 on 91? I don't see that happening. You could get well into 400 though with the 50trim.

500-600 with quick spool? Crank or wheel? Better plan on geting a stroker to make that kind of power at the wheels and have good spool time on 91 without race gas or alcohol injection.

Since you plan on upgrading the turbo and shooting for 500HP why not go with some big lift cams and cylinder head work?

Better plan on some type of engine mangement solution as well since you are occasionally planning on running race gas. If you can't make the mapping more aggresive there isn't much point. SAFC and boost controller are OK but, something like a UTEC, or Exede that give fuel, boost, and timing control would be better.

The best?

That is subjective.

Alot of people speak highly of AMS's turbo kits and they seem to have a range for all power levels.

Stroke.... You can go big displacement and relatively low redline or a built 2.0 screamer. It all depends on what you want to do. If you are looking for quick spool bigger is probably better. If you don't mind loosing some spool and being able to turn it up to 10,000 RPM go 2.0.

I would get in touch with a reputable tuner like Vishnu, AMS, or Buschur. Tell them what you are looking to accomplish, what you already have and, go from there.

Not anything higher than 4k? Dude, the stock turbo barely spools before 4k. Go look at some dyno sheets and tell me where you see the torque spike...it's right around 3600-3800. It would be very difficult to find a turbo that can make 460-480whp on straight 91oct and not spool later than 4k even on a stroker. Most people with GT35R's don't make high 400s on straight 93...

If most of your canyon driving is uphill, tight turns and w/i the 2-3-4 gear range, then you might wanna stay with a straight 264 set (HKS,GSC), or the Works 269's.You could do a staggered 264,272 or 272,264 combo with the gears dialed in at a more advanced setting, or if you have the money go for the higher lift, Ultimate Road Pipers. At any rate you'll wanna optimize midrange torque and fast turbo spoolup.

As for turbos: for auto-x and tight canyon work you'll not benefit from a larger turbo upgrade. In fact, none of the GT-30 or larger turbos would be an asset for your type of driving. IMO the TME 6.5 gives the fastest spool and the best bang for the buck. Just my $.02.

The AEM EMS sounds like a good idea, and the Alky is a personal choice. Given the 2- liter displacement, I dont think that 400 WHP is likely on 91 with a fast spool, broad powerband setup...even with drugs. Now, if you just wanna achieve the 400 whp goal and are willing to sacrifice fast spool and midrange torque, and use drugs...then it is way easier. Or as someone else mentioned, you may wanna opt for more c.c.'s....

Edit: i just reread your original post and noticed that you live in SoCal and use an S-AFC. You may wanna get a spot-on tune from Dr. Grey, TT or RRE and ask them how best to achieve your power goals w/o spending too much money.

The 50-trim BARELY makes that much on pump gas, and it's usually much lower. I wouldn't go around telling people they can get 450whp on 91oct reliably.
