Mike@Tanabe - I appreciate everything you guys have done and I am happy to say that your exhaust system and documentation helped me to clear myself of an "aftermarket exhaust" ticket.

As far as performance, the Butt-dyno claims no difference between this and my TurboXS RFL, but I haven't gotten to the dyno yet...prolly will be a while.

There are NO neckdowns in this exhaust, it is 80mm all the way down. It does stick out to clear the USDM bumper so I would be concerned about the look on a JDM bumper.

DanJ has heard this exhaust personally along with quite a few other members and I get nothing but compliments. I was at a wedding yesterday when a few older folks actually complimented the car and the way it sounded...additionally some of my local buddies (Supercharged RSX, modded WRX/STi) have picked up these exhausts since they sound so great and perform well.

I have the older Super Medallion Touring catback which Tanabe claims meets 95 dB as opposed to 93 for the Medallion Touring. This exhaust is gorgeous. 304 SS throughout including the hangers and flanges. Hollow lightweight hangers. Perfect robotic TIG welds. This is the quiestest Evo withe TBE that I have ever heard. I'm sure the Medallion Touring system is even quieter. (FYI I replaced a Buschur Magnaflow catback.) The system does neckdown to 72mm at the cat flange. It's intended to match the Tanabe DP which is 70mm. I assume the Medallion Touring does the same. The neckdown is no where near as severe as HKS which tapers to match their 65mm DP.

Tanabe tucks in nice and tight. Both at the bumper and along the undercarriage. OEM like fit. Way better than my old Buschur catback.

hehe, sort of an old thread.. i have this exhaust and it's pretty good. I like it. When switching back and forth between this exhaust and my helix catback, I noticed a little less top end with this exhaust, but it's a good compromise considering how much quieter it is than the Helix.

I doubt so without some modification. Even with the stock rear bumper, it sticks out a bit... maybe about 1/4- 1/2 an inch or so.

That's crazy. I made 292whp/290wtq at 23psi on 91 octane on a dyno dynamics also when I had about the same/less mods as you with the same catback. I had a TBE/dropin/ and flash. Shrugs. Maybe you have a boost leak.

I made 307whp/290 (03 stock Turbo) on XS engineering Dyo Dynamics

with Cams, Full 3" TBE with HFC and Apexi Power FC with 21psi

266 whp is like almost stock

Yeah I was disappointed with how the numbers came out. I was thinking the exhaust was possibly a lot more restrictive than I thought. I'll be doing a boost leak test ASAP. Thanks for posting your numbers, glad I know the cat-back isn't whats holding me back.

Yeah. The reason I suggest a boost leak is because a while back I had one and only made like 270whp with my current setup (TBE w/ a resonated testpipe and tanabe touring catback too, drop in, LICP, o2 housing, cosworth cams, v-springs/retainers, walbro fp, 720cc injectors) and this happened a week after I made 313whp/310wtq on the dyno dynamics. In the end, it was a boost leak causing the low numbers so that may be what's wrong wtih your car as well. I'm back around the numbers I was making before now too. Good luck. Send me a PM if u need any help.

BTW: For what it's worth, while doing all this testing, we switched out my tanabe touring medallion and switched it out for a full 3" non-resonated Top Fuel catback exhaust (very free flowing), and my dyno numbers hardly changed. I was really surprised. This catback flows really well considering how heavy/restrictive the muffler section is along with the taper at the cat and the resonator.

Those are some crazy numbers if your dyno dynamics is reading like the one at Speed Element or the one the OP seems to have gone on. Most stock Evo's on dyno dynamics like the one I went on make around 220-230whp. 266whp for a stock evo sound pretty high.

I was told by Tanabe that the Medallion Touring is 3" from the cat flange to the tip. Is that incorrect?
