Quote: I was told by Tanabe that the Medallion Touring is 3" from the cat flange to the tip. Is that incorrect?
Like Cal said, it tapers a little bit.

What about at the resonator?

Well I cooked up a boost leak tester today and PANGES was right on, big leak in my upper intercooler piping. Will have to go back to the dyno and get some new numbers. Thanks!

Quote: Yeah. The reason I suggest a boost leak is because a while back I had one and only made like 270whp with my current setup (TBE w/ a resonated testpipe and tanabe touring catback too, drop in, LICP, o2 housing, cosworth cams, v-springs/retainers, walbro fp, 720cc injectors) and this happened a week after I made 313whp/310wtq on the dyno dynamics. In the end, it was a boost leak causing the low numbers so that may be what's wrong wtih your car as well. I'm back around the numbers I was making before now too. Good luck. Send me a PM if u need any help.

BTW: For what it's worth, while doing all this testing, we switched out my tanabe touring medallion and switched it out for a full 3" non-resonated Top Fuel catback exhaust (very free flowing), and my dyno numbers hardly changed. I was really surprised. This catback flows really well considering how heavy/restrictive the muffler section is along with the taper at the cat and the resonator.
How did the numbers change? Did you gain power by going to the higher flowing one? Also remember that the Tanabe has 80mm piping.

The Tanabe Touring Medallion looks pretty good, but ultimately I decided to try the Fujitsubo RM-01A due to pipe size.

is this exhaust larger in piping diameter than the hks hi power? my hi power has annoying drone on the highway. I'd like to know opinions from people in 2011

I went from a full invidia n1 style to this last year. Much cleaner and quieter sound.

Sorry to bring this back again..but I'm in the market to buy one of these exhaust and I was wondering as well how this exhaust has been performing for you guys over the years? is the fujitsubo the closest competator to this as far as sound and performance go?

And have you measured inside the muffler?

I have and its about 2.6" - 2.7" inside the muffler.

Fujitsubo also tapers inside the mufflers and resonators. Someone a while back posted a fujitsubo resonator cut off and inside were these walls sticking out in the exhaust path. That is why that exhaust is on the quieter side.

Still thrilled with my Fujitsubo. It shows almost no corrosion after all this time, and it is extremely civil on the noise side.

What kind of power level can these Tanabe Touring medallions support? Do the current versions still neck down in the muffler and resonator? I'm currently running a 2.5" catback and making about 400/330 DJ and want to free up the exhaust but not run a loud system.
