Back to back testing of Invidia, Ebay and Works 02 housings......
Mrsnow, post #127.
The boost is what the boost is. It was completely untouched. If the boost varies I will have to point you to a difference in design of the 02 housings that could very well effect boost pressure through back pressure. That was kind of the point of the test to find out which 02 housing worked the best.
I knew there would be atleast one guy that thought he was smarter than the test, it's you.
Not sure how you are coming up with your boost numbers and the 1.5 psi difference through the run but you are BLIND. The numbers are quite easy to read at the bottom of the page. Please take time to do so.
Calling me out, what a laugh. Buy a dyno, buy some parts, do some testing and post some results. Until then finish up your Cheetos and Dr. Pepper and the last episode of Sponge Bob Square Pants.
Here it is in case you can't see the sheet:
Minimum boost with Ebay:17.7
Minimum boost with Works: 16.6
Minimum boost with Invidia: 16.2
Those are not the differences at a certain RPM, those are the boost levels at 3000 rpm from flooring the car at 2,000 rpm. Difference in spool up at the time the dyno read the boost at the minimum RPM, which was 3,000 rpm.
The maximum boost between the runs didn't vary more than .5 psi, you cannot hold a test more closely than that.
The average boost, which is measured from 3,000 rpm to 7,000 rpm had a maximum variation of .9 psi, that is the average over the entire run and that was between the Ebay and Invidia, since you are set on the Works, the difference was only .7 psi.
If you think you can get a test more fair, please do it. Until then, find someone else to accuse of messing with results.

i like many others appreciate the time/effort that goes into doing these tests. thanks again!!

kimletrim,
That's interesting. So all the bolts and nuts went right on you Invidia 02 housing? None bound up on the edges of the cast housing and all were able to be installed? Was there an extra 02 sensor port welded shut on your Invidia housing?

Now on to the problem I find with your testing...
You are a good tuner or so I have been told.
Your car was tuned for the COATED ebay and your down pipe.
Any tuner knows if you change parts (volume and flow) you have to adjust the TUNE.
Why you are comparing:
COATED to non coated parts (COATING INCREASES EXHAUST GAS SPEED AND CAN RESULT IN A 2% GAIN ALONE---uncoated parts could result in boost drop);
Your car tuned for "your set up of parts" as baseline, and than you run that same map and boost pressure to totally different GROUP OF PARTS.
@ 3000 RPMS 17.7-16.2=1.5 for the invedia. or 17.7-16.6=1.1 that is simple mAtH DUH? so there is where I got my 1.5 and 1.1 from.
the same measuerment in the line space at the begining of the chart is equal or less than the size where you make peak HP #s.
So, a tuned car for those setups (works or invedia) could make an equal # or grater #s if you decided to compare same coated parts on a properly tuned car and raised boost levels or duty on the EBC.
At 370+hp 1lb of boost could = a great # of TQ or HP more than 3-5 of either
When you actually compare all coated parts individually tuned for each set up than we can call it fair.
NICE JOB TO TRY TO SELL MORE OF YOUR COATED EBAY PARTS.
You are in the business of selling parts and tuning cars so don't try to tell me you have no profit to be made on knocking other venders parts by a few HP.
Finally, thank you for doing this comparison it showed me my the parts I bought were worth the price. I respect you for putting in the time to test these parts no matter how loaded your tests are.
When is there an unbiased engineer when you need one. I will most def be attacked by the Buscher camp after this post.
Flame suit on

I guess I am the only one on the board that thinks this test was a wash. Dyno looks the same to me if you correct it with the same boost levels across the board. I think the only thing separating the housings is a bit of added duty cycle on your EBC for the Works and Invidia.
Rather than waste my time argueing and explaining anything further I will just go on running and selling what works the best.
What you guys obviously aren't grabbing is how I do business/testing. If something works better than what I am using I will simply switch to that new product and sell them. I am sure that either of these companies would have gladly sold me their products so I could make profit on them. I could have also offered new downpipes and charged more for them to fit these 3" outlet 02 housings and then ceramic coated these parts and made even more.
Facts are facts.
Build a car, make more power and we'll talk. Buy a dyno, rent a dyno, perform your own testing and we'll talk. Until then go troll somewhere else.

Mrsnow, you know, you pissed me off.
Think about it, if I wanted to mess with the results why would I take the time to post the dyno sheets up just the way the testing was done. I could have done whatever I wanted, seperate days, seperate tunes, way different boost pressures etc., If I wanted to show one was a lot better it would have been easy to do.
Get a freaking life.

Snow is getting deep in here. Always an armchair engineer, number cruncher and self proclaimed know it all to argue a mute point. What an a$$. You are the very essence of EVO owner I can't stand. But then again you keep companies like Works or Invidia selling their parts. Everyone needs merchandise choices, right?

Thanks Dave for posting the results.

Did you ever think the flow dynamics of the ss304 Megan type units with their fully divided housing allows for less turbulance and hence higher flow and more boost.
Any non technical personal can look at both stock divided and works non divided open cavity and see that WG dumped gases and turbine passed gasses will just bounce off of each other creating a hurricane of turbulance. This turbulance is enough to slow down the exit of the exhaust, turbine blades and increase the backpressure, effectively lowering the boost a tad.
The Invidia "semi divided" wall is not much different than the works. It is a poorly designed short flat piece of metal dividing the two chambers. It is much too short and is not contoured.
The Megan / SS304 unit is port matched to the turbine exit and the curvature and length of the contoured divide promotes the individual flow of WG and tunrbine gases until they meet near the exit of the housing.
When you actually compare all coated parts individually tuned for each set up than we can call it fair.

Yeah, so I was going to quote Mr. Snow's last post, but there was so much misinformation in it that I didn't want to re-post it. Basically he said Dave Buschur is conspiring to rip us all off.
I don't feel like typing it all out, but a picture is worth 1000 words.

Does this mean I now have an exhaust leak?
I never said the power I felt was from the 02 housing itself. It was all basically from the cams, manifold, and custom tune.
Anyway thanks for the install and fighting to get that 02 on(or I guess thank Dan, haha). I also talked to Al about a week ago he said you and him had a talk about me. I guess you were saying you were confused on my I brought my car to your shop but I talk **** all the time.
Can we please stop this Dave it's old. I had my opinions on your old exhaust, I did not like the sound/look, thats about it. I brought my car to you for a reason.
