well since we are on the subject....right now my stock 05 is running about 20.5 PSI. I'm about to get a TBE/tune/filter/mbc. What can I safley raise my psi to? I usually run 93 oct so I assume 22 would be completley safe?

I didn't know you asked me a question. Looking back, I see you asked a rhetorical question, but nothing directed at me. There is not necessarily a max boost limit - it's all dependent upon tuning, fuel, and eventually max power being made.

People love to sneak in those newbie questions in the middle of threads with different subjects.

First off stock boost is all you can do to a stock evo. If you start increasing boost on a stock evo with a stock tune then your ecu will start pulling timing and rendor that increase of boost meaningless.

Now assuming he was tuned with the correct supporting mods on a evo 9 I would boost at max of 25psi. At 30 psi your turbo will only spike to that number not retain or hold it at all-it wont even taper slightly. However, at 25 it will taper slightly.

There is no way you can increase boost on a stock evo safely and adequately. You must do some modding to get more power. IMHO, spending 200bucks to get a base flash which will give you 20-30whp is alot better thn increasing boost a coupel pounds which wont do anything for you at all. Not to mention at least on a tune you can also increase the boost much more safely and with the tune the increase boost will make a much better difference.

hmmmm.......if detonation is the enemy, couldn't you monitor you EGT to get an accurate read on possible detonation and then determine what boost level you can safely be at? Thoughts please....

All egt's do is monitor your exhaust gas temps to determine if your car is running lean or rich. High egt's mean you are running lean low egt's mean you are running rich. You can read knock via a wbo2 that incorporates a knock sensor. Personally I like the r500.
