And the next thing you know, you still can't register it because it doesn't have the 5-mph bumper, side door beam and maybe other "safety" features...
If you try to register it as kit car, you might have better luck...
You can use cheaper parts by getting used LHD Mirage parts EXCEPT the steering rack (EVO's steering rack is a quick one) so you can save a bunch. I'm not sure if you need new wiring harness or not....
Good luck.

Oh, I thought you're in US, nevermind.....
Registering is not something I can answer for you here then...
Again, if you can get a hold of LHD Lancer/Mirage parts, you might be able to get this project to be cheaper...

i've been offered about $100 for complete job including a dashboard and the plastic in the armrest in which the mirror and the door lock switches go
they'll probably use the same steering rack and other stuff lots of welding i assume
u should come here man and see hundreds of converted toyota corrollas and sunny's some converted in 1993 and run fine till this moment
i think i should use a chepo car for conveting before fiddling with a evo
thnx

Slightly OT, but are those the Euro-spec Corolla and turbo sunny?
$1,000 sounds like a fair price to me, but, I say quality of work is more important than how much you spend. Make sure you get the right shop/mechanic to do this...
Good luck on owning the EVO.
