Stock Internals

just wondering how much hp the 46g3 motor in the Evo8 can handle without having to upgrade internals such as new bottom-end parts and other stuff like that? thanks

yeah it is basically the same ol 4g63 found in the eclipse...They are pretty durable engines, but if you are thinkin of upping the boost you'll need to do some interal work.

Uhhh, no, really, you won't.

People have run 430hp at the wheels on bone stock 7-bolt 4G63T bottom ends. There is no reason to upgrade the internals, especially with the stock turbo.

You guys are seriously putting "limits" that are WAY too low on this engine.

It sounds like they are, considering the DSM 4G63 has CAST rods and pistons, and the EVO 4G63 has FORGED rods and pistons, which should be stronger.

There is the outside chance that Mitsu used forged materials in order to make them lighter, and in doing so, made them *weaker* than the DSMs cast internals.... but you know what? I doubt it!

I bet the EVO engine is good for 500hp without mods.

We won't really find out until folks start reaching those levels.

yeah 22psi isnt a huge leap from stock 19. Im sure people are willing to up PSI even higher in an older eclipse, but who is going to start pushing psi's in the evo this soon? Using the wrong motor oil could void the warranty for gawd sakes?! Id be all for rippin a 1g eclipse w/ 26psi, but i'd def. give the evo a few yrs. before poundin it.
