Hoping to gain a few more in colder weather...

I had another friend on the dyno, who made 26HP and around 35-ftlb more.

In addition to what I have, he has HKS headers, HKS RS intake, HKS S Type intercooler, HKS UICP, Injectors (I think 680cc), fuel rail, Hi-power exhaust (instead of silent) and probably some other stuff I don’t even know about (he is getting ready for forged internals & 50 trim).

On the dyno my boost would only peak to 1.4 bar (on the street I peak to 1.55bar) where his would only go up to 1.3 bar (1.45 bar on the street). They believe his boost is not holding where it should be after the intercooler install. I was hoping that he would make another 40-50HP with all the stuff he has.

I have been thinking about what to do next for a while. My goal would be to gain another 25-30HP on pump gas alone, as I would not ‘feel’ anything less on the road.

I though about headers but discharged the idea as I do not want to constantly worry about it cracking. I would have loved to get the ported coated manifold from Bushur, but I am oversees and it would probably be too much of a hassle.
Intake - not considered due to noise (I already have the works drop in filter – it did not give a seat of the pants difference after installing it with AMS LICP)
Intercooler (maybe 10HP?)
UICP – is it worth the money?
Exhaust cam – is it proven to make any gains?

Is there anything else that I haven’t thought about?

Nice gains. It might be my imagination but it appears that your dyno facility inputted the wrong drivetrain correction factors.

yep - 5th gear pull both on baseline and after

look at the km/h - 221kph at baseline & 228kmh at after graph

I thought about both alky & water injection before, but it is very hard to source race gas (and probably alky) where I live, so I would prefer to spent money on hardware that will give gains on pump gas alone.

Looks about right! I made 63whp and 69ft/lbs over stock with just exhaust, so your extra mods look good to give you those few extra ponies.

Intercooler (maybe 10HP?) - maybe. Probably more like 5whp
UICP – is it worth the money? - no, it will not make any gains
Exhaust cam – is it proven to make any gains? - yes, although I don't know how much off the top of my head (I own a VIII, so my IX knowledge is spotty) ;p )

Ludi, thanks for the feedback

5whp is pretty low for something as expensive as a FMIC.

I am trying to see if I can get the bushur ported coated manifold (need to get a stock manifold for core first). If I can get the manifold over here, than I might slap it on together with a HKS272 exhaust cam and see if I ain anything...

I have a stock manifold available, but it's for a VIII, so I don't know if it will work for the IX...

just because a part is expensive doesn't mean it makes HP, take the Works o2 housing for example, lol.

Nice numbers BTW.

I agree that alcohol injection + a tune would be a great next step. It could get you another 30 whp (or more?). Window washer fluid (50% methanol/50% water) is commonly used for alky. Should be pretty easy to find that. Otherwise, you could run straight DI water. Should be able to find that at most larger markets.

Does your friend have the HKS intercooler with a IX?
