p300 code = failed inspection

Ive had the code for 8k miles. Mitsu has reflashed it per the TSB. Ive replaced the plugs also. The car has 54k on it now. All current mods Works p2, turbo back have been on the car for 35k miles with no issues. Coincidently changed the clutch and flywheel along with TRE tranny rebuild at the time the cel first occured.

Mark, I've heard of more P300 codes that go away to believe that the transmission could be in question. What clutch & flywheel are you using?

Jon I did not intend to imply that the tranny is at fault. I believe it has to do with the Exedy organic clutch and the Prostreet 10.5 lb flywheel as it chatters more than stock.

Can anyone offer advice on how to pass inspection? My car cannot go longer than two days without throwing the code which doesnt allow the ecu to accumulate enough data to pass inspection. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need a "creader" search Ebay for it. The code is thrown because your new drivetrain goodies throw off your sensor with the vibration.

I was pounding it into the kids head so he didn't come back here like "sold my Evo, couldn't pass inspection." It happens way to often.

Plus i took the only two beneficial statements in this thread, and put them together in one simple, easy to read post.

My understanding is that if a code is cleared there will be insufficient data to pass the inspection. So a creader is apparently not an option.

might be if you cleared the codes by the neg batt method, my code scanner clears only codes that pops up.

you're right you need to run the car for a while after the codes have been cleared for the ecu to properly register on the inspection station's computer (i'm in MA too, our inspections are tough). I ran into a problem like that because of my lack-of-cat throwing a code.

I dont know how to get rid of the p300 though, i got lucky and never had that problem

I wanted to update this thread as I have had my problem solved by none other than Mitsu. Turns out the primary problem was a 401 egr code. It seems that during my clutch/trans. case install my egr solenoid was damaged and I had a significant vaccum leak. Mitsu believes that this was also causing the p300 code.
The bottom line is I was able to pass inspection after driving 6 days without throwing a code.
