would like to know the answer to this question as well.

What year 4g64 engine do you need to get in order for everything to go smoothly? Do you need to have the same year crank if you just plan on building a 2.3?

any galant 99-03 or any eclipse 00-05 4 cylinder. the cranks and blocks in all those motors are the same. any of those cranks can be put into an EVO block to make a 2.3

I know its not an evo 4g64 but in my 95 talon I have just over 24,000 miles on my built 2.4 that I have had the redline set to 7800 RPMs. I have run a PTE GT3561 at over 400 whp levels for the end of last summer and even more all this year. 54lbs per minute in DSMLink.

I know a lot of people wonder about the durability with the higher side loading pressures on a 2.4. So far so good, and now I have an opportunity (blown headgasket) to see what the cylinder wear looks like once I pop the head off.

Other engine specifics are:

Wiseco 8.8:1 .20 over bore pistons
Eagle rods
6 bolt G4CS block out of a Hyundai Sonata
Engine torque plated to 100ftlbs. on ARP headstuds
Built by, now out of business, QPR

Once again, I know the blocks, cranks, and rods are different between an older 6 bolt engine and the later evos but the potential side loading issues over time is something that would be shared between both setups.

BTW, I would do a 2.4 or 2.3 in a heartbeat if I rebuilt my evo's engine. The extra torque is nice and is very noticeable. Its the first thing others notice when driving my Talon.
