HKS 272 ex cam on IX

I'm wondering how many of you have it on the ix's since there isn't an intake cam out, besides TT. I just got the hks 272 ex cam for my bday from a friend, wondering approximatly how many whp this will yield? my mods are

Tanabe Concept G Blue TBE [no cat]
K&n drop in
hallman boost controller [23 psi i believe]
TT flash

i have 325 whp and 301 wtq as of now, anyone who has installed and dyno'd have any idea? Thank you !!!

also, a tune after the cam would yield better #'s then just putting the cam in and no flash right?

^I have to agree, I have yet to be convinced that any cam or cams have made much of a difference on IXs.

But hey your in the position to offer the EVO community beneficial data. Please if you do it, it would be great for a baseline run and after cam run of course. Also keep the boost relatively the same, more boost often means more power and it's hard to tell if the Cam is really working.

Many have done it - none have shown gains. Not the best gift, but I'm sure your friend meant well. Can't say I've ever bought a $250-300 for a "friend" on his birthday. Must be a damn good "friend," hehe.

REALLY? no gain? Hmmm, I thought I saw a few threads saying a little here and there, I saw a thread in the TT section where one exhaust came gained 3x whp, i'm sure you know what i'm talking about Warr right? So your saying cams are USLESS for a ix? -.- oh man, that just ruins my day

do a ported and coated exhaust manifold and a ebay o2 housing, maybe a BR LICP.

thats what im doing next(and maybe a waste of money BR 20g9-5)

we have simalar mods.

what dyno were your numbers on.

because I have the Tanabe exhaust now, and maybe the BR will make more power

I was thinking of doing the same thing, but based on my research the gains are very nil (maybe 10whp?).

No, you got a CAM, not CAMS. We are talking about adding JUST an exhaust cam. There have not been proven gains - definitely not 30whp or whatever. Hell, the TT IX camS haven't shown gains on customer cars either, at least not $900 worth...

Very true. No one has given or produced any documentation of a gain from any cams on the IX. Whether it be HKS exhaust or TT I/E. Every one is getting a cam or cams installed with a flash or some other mods so its hard to say and pretty much impossible to determine if they helped.

thats why i'm glad i still have the same 'ol 4g63 with no mivec. at least around here, i'm faster than any 9 right now. the stock 9 turbo makes the biggest difference imo. i've heard some say the mivec is equivalent to an 8 having cams. don't know what to say to that one either. the biggest difference imo is the driver.

evo 8 w/cams and stock 9 turbo= evo 9 w/mivec? what does everyone think of that statement?

When both are tuned, the 9 still may have the advantage because of its engine being less prone to knock. It also has a smoother idle. Its a win win with either car to me.

have a friend who added the hks 272 to his 9 mr w/buschur stage 1 and still only ran 12.1's with a mail-in dynoflash. didn't do much performance wise at all.
