Question IX runs slower until I re-set the ECU........ why?

I have a IX with a MBC and with only 6,000 miles on the clock.

My story is this, I bought the Evo like 4 months ago, in my 1st week, my hose to the throttle body popped out,... no biggie, I pulled over right after my CEL came on and started blowing lots of smoke thru the exhaust.

I put on the hose and I took out my negative on the battery for a few minutes,.. no more CEL and the car ran good again.

Now,.... way before I installed the MBC and boost gauge, I have been having a problem.
My car feels slow, specialy on the top-end and my gas seem to burn up a lil faster than normal (my friend w/ a stock IX runs faster than mine)....... I have NO CEL but I take the negative out the battery anyways, I let it sit for a few minutes, put it back on, and turn on the car. The RPMs seem to go up to 3,000 and stay there for maybe 2-3 seconds and then idles like normal.
I go test drive with my friend and wow, what a difference, the car pulls a lot better on top and when I race my friend on his IX, we are dead even all the way.
The car runs great for maybe a day or 2,.. then I have to do the same thing with the battery. Its getting annoying.

What should I do??, and would a reflash take care of this??

any help is appreciated,
Jon.

Turn your boost down....sounds like your car could be pulling timing

my boost is not really "set" but it kindda spikes to 20psi and goes down to 19 and 17 by redline.
its almost like stock.

But, the IX has been doing this problem way before I installed the MBC.

Some cars run faster than others from the factory. Saying your friends car is faster than you tells us nothing. Take out the boost controller and see if the car still feels the same.

ok,.. but when i unplug the battery for a few and put it back on,..... the car runs better and my friend and I run the same then.

After 2-3 days, the car goes back into feeling slow, until I reset the ecu.

the car is learning the correct SAFE a/f ratio. right after you reset the ecu, its running on pre-set values for timing, octane, fuel, ect. this is not optimal for lots of cars with the bad gas we in the us get and such, so the cars can adjust for this. it is very hard on a car to be doing what you are doing, basically, your car is seeing something that it thinks is dangerous to itself and is adjusting timing and fuel maps accordingly. might blow it up.

ok,. so is there a fix to this??

basically, it has been doing this since I bought the car,... even before the 1st oil change.
If I take it to the dealer, they will say "everything is fine" because it really feels that way.

I always put 93 octane.

If you get a reflash tuned to match the fuel you use and modfs you have the car will pull less timing and hopefully will remain more consisitant as you are driving.

If the car is picking up power when you are diconnecting the mattery this means you are pulling significant timing with your mbc and what ever fuel you are using

the car is supposed to do this!!! short of modding the car, there is NO fix cause theres NOTHING WRONG! you just got a slightly slower evo than your buddy. it happens, my buddy got a 9 that is retardedly fast and its stock, yet hangs/beats cammed, flashed, TBE, ect evo 8's.

People consistently say this kind of thing, and I don't get it. These are production line components. It seems hard to believe that one could be so much more powerful than the other. It would be interesting to get a fast one and a slow one and start swapping components to figure out what's causing the large difference.

its all in the way the car was broken-in, and how the tolerances worked out inside the engine, ect. some cars get luckier than others, thats the way it is. unless EVERYTHING was exactly identical, and i mean down to the micron, every car will run differently, period.

If it wasnt the case, manufacturers (such as GM for instance) wouldnt use the dyno results from the top 2% of the model as published results. Tolerances develop in the robots machining gear as things get worn after use. People get tired. Friday night happens once a week. You name it, there are lots of reasons why one car can be faster than another even though they are the "same". Why does my MR overboost from the factory? No one has been able to tell me, but I like 23psi at peak torque, so I dont whine about it.
