I think this is a waste of money nice product but a waste of money that heat wrap is going to crack the manifold after a year of use. Do some research about some track evo's in japan they crack after a few times out on the track. Maybe daily drive wouldn't be that bad but hey what do i know.

Wonder how this would compete with the FR stock mani... although I'd rather have the FR one IMO. =D
I'm hoping these won't crack (for quite obvious reasons). The difference in construction, I'm hoping, will help with the benefits of added strength also.
I think I will put the wrap on. My theory is that insulated, the piece will retain heat for longer, lengthening its cooling cycle which should reduce the chances of it cracking from thermal stresses.
The Tomei o2 also sits on a support on the engine:

which should go someway in reducing loads on various parts.
Anyway, thanks for the heads up. I'll prolly check it in a year or so (if I remember!).

i had JIC Ex-manifold with heat wrap, it cracked in 6 months. Cost me 300 bux to put it on, and cost me 300 bux to reinstall the stock ex-manifoldOriginally Posted by jmartinez1170

700 (JIC Exhaust Manifold) + 600 Labor = $1300. that is half of the turbo kit. I'm not saying it will crack, just dont heat wrap it. It increase the chance of crack.

I wouldn't wrap it either. If you want to do something to decrease temps under the hood and keep the heat in the manifold get it coated even if it's just the inside. The wrap is not the hot ticket.
Some times things like (wrap or coating) that don't have the effect you hope for too. I asked at work when I first started why we don't coat our headers. Our engine shop said that when they did coat them it moved enough heat back into the cylinder head it became more prone detonation. Just a little food for thought.

Interseting reading your thoughts on this guys.
I assume headers crack due to various reasons, most prominent among those are:
1.)excessive loads - no flex in the exhaust, lack of hangers. As the car moves about, hangers flex, straining the manifold.
2.)heat cycling - self explanatory. Thing heats, it cools unevenly ans deform slightly etc.
If the thing is strong enough then these factors shouldn't cause it to crack, or at least it will hold up under 'normal' conditions.
I've got all the stock hangers and a flex in the dp. The o2 is supported, which I'm hoping is sufficient.
As for the heat, I would have thought (as I said) that the wrap should reduce its cooling rate and help reduce any cool/hot spots. Perhaps I have overlooked the fact that the turbo gets pretty darm hot and the wrap might end retaining more heat than I had originally thought. In this case, the turbo itself should keep the heat in the mani/turbo system long enough for thermal stress cracking during cooling can perhaps be eliminated (?). In any case, it will save me hours!!
p.s. man, $300 for install is murder! I get my installs virtually for free.

Okay then,
FS: One roll of TOMEI heat wrap! It's TOMEI and it's JDM so it's waaaaay better than anything you can lay your American hands on! Price would be [normal wrap] x 3 + shipping.

I'm interested to hear if you notice any difference in power.
But dam if it dosn't look good. It should have women dropping their pants for sure

I'm still too lazy to install it. Been in coversation with the guys in Japan and he just told me that I don't need to wrap it. hooray!!!
Probably do it this weekend....

WE ARE ALL EAGER TO SEE THE RESULT ON THIS STOCK LOOKING MANIFOLD.
I'm pretty eager as well! It's a bit of an **** cos I work 6 days a and the Sunday before last I was out of the country and yesterday I was just plain too tired.
Anyway, i don't know if i'm gonna get to the dyno after the install - the local on just kindda changed management and it's like $120 a go on the dyno.
On the bright side my usualy mechanic who helps me with installs will be around tomorrow so there is a slim chance we'll do it tomorrow, but that's no promise...
