RPM specific rattle
RPM specific rattle
First off. I searched, but couldn't find anything completely relevant to my problem.
I have a fairly loud rattle. It only occurs at ~2400-2600rpm and occurs in each gear. Other than that there is not a similar condition. I have datalogged while driving and engine parameters do no change or flux in congruence with the rattle.
I have checked all my exhaust parts and they are all tightened down and everything has clearence. I checked over things in the engine bay and everything looks fine. My upper IC pipe is sittting against the driver fender well but if I knock it against the car it does not imitate the sound I hear while driving.
The car only makes the sound on the road. I put it on the dyno and the sound never appeared which leads me to believe it's a rattle.
I recently put in the AMS 2.3L stroker and have all bolt on and cams. The noise just appeared after the engine install. I had the shop look over the car extensively 3 times and they couldn't find the source of the noise.
I am at a loss. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Or if someone can reference a thread dealing with this problem that I may not have seen that would help too.
TIA

I just found my rattle I have been dealing with since I bought my car.
It turns out the heatshield that is above where my cat goes was loose. When I went to tighten the bolt it snapped off with very little force. So the bolt was cross threaded from the factory and was never fully tight.
I used tiny sheet metal screws and secured it to the 2nd shield under the main heat shield being careful not to drill into the floor.
So far so good. No more rattles.
