Exclamation Balance shaft alignment DSM GODS PLEASE HELP!!!!

OK, I have been suspect of my balance shaft being out of sync (one revolution off, 180 out,...)

So, have have had a lot of people say to put the timing mark at 12 o'clock and if it falls back to 9o'clock than it is in sync. OK, I have everything off and when I put the timing mark up 12:00 it just sat there. if I rotate it clockwise it sits there at 12:00. If I rotate it counter clockwise it feels like it builds some presure... then on one revolution it will fall slightly to 11:00 then on the next it will fall a bit more 10:00. is the difference that slight? Is there another way to make sure this is on?

Please help!!!

I did the screw driver trick when I changed my belt. I was trying to check the rear balance shaft and it doesn't seem like it is working...

I'm going to try the screw driver again to double check the front shaft.

Im in the process of putting my head back on. I left the balance shaft where I found it. Then placed the screw driver in the side of the block. I hope that I dont have that problem.

OK, I have read the procedure like 20 times in the service manual...

The rear balance shaft should just to on the timing mark. I don't see ant thing that would make it move back.

The front balance shaft/oil pump shaft has a lobe that the screwdriver would hit if it was 180 out. It would fall back to the timing mark if you put it at 12:00. It's timing mark is more line 10-111 o'clock.

Going to do the screwdriver test right now.

OK, where I stand now...

I set the front to the timing mark. It was at 7 o'clock (mental note). Then I did the screw driver trick. No go!!! Out of sync. So, I rolled it one time. Screw driver trick... BINGO! Set everything TDC and put tension on the belts.

Then I turned the crank by hand.
Cams TDC - correct.
Crank TDC - correct
Rear Bal Shaft on mark - correct
Front Bal Shaft at 4 o'clock.

Cranked around again...
Cams not TDC - correct.
Crank TDC - Correct
Rear Bal Shaft on mark - correct
Front Bal Shaft at 7 o'clock (mental note)

Then again...
Cams TDC - correct.
Crank TDC - correct
Rear Bal Shaft on mark - correct
Front Bal Shaft on mark - correct

I guess it is all good. But I don't feel like putting it all back right now. Test drive tomorrow after work and some wrench time. It looks like the front balance shaft might have been out of sync. But, now it might be back in snyc.

OK, I finally got to put some miles on the Evo. It feels sooooo much smoother. It must have been that front balance shaft. I set it all up and re-aligned everything and it runs great. No more belt jumping.
