Hks EVC help plz
Hey guys My Name is Carlos im pretty new here to the forums and i needed some help from any fellow EVC owners.. Heres a lil history on my problem. I had a routine maintainence at mitsu (oil change, inspection etc.) and the mechanic told me my oil temp gauge bolt seemed to be wet so he told me it might be leaking. It was still under warranty so i told them to change it. This was only thing done that was out of the ordinary to me. I have the stock mitsu gauge cluster pack.
Ok so after i left on the drive home my car was only boosting to 18-19 psi. I had left it on 21-22 and it held great with minimal taper. On my evc it was set at 68 pts for 22psi. Now i have to set the evc to 74 pts to get the 22 psi but the boost taper has increased significantly. It goes down to 19.x by redline. I reinstalled the EVC (changed hoses, positioning of the stepping motor) to see if it would help and resetted all the settings. I reinstalled my intake, BOV, and the top intercooler plumbing (tightened clamps etc.) also.
Any help or suggestions?? I have a buschur stage 2 setup fyi also
Thx guys!!

The weather has a significant impact on my boost settings (hot humid vs. cool dry).
As for the boost taper, mine is barely noticable, but always been there (about 1 - 1.5 psi)
My settings are 62 (low) and 74 (high)

Its actually getting chilly now i think we were at 60 degrees tonight so i went out for a spin. I restarted the damn Evc again and put it on 70, i hit 21.6 psi peak. I got the reading from my lil monitor. I put it up to 74 and my peak reading didn't increase.. Im starting to think this damn thing has a mind of its own only seems to work when it wants to
I called the HKS tech and the lady told me i either have a boost leak or maybe my wastegate isn't working properly. Any ideas or suggestions ??

losdog (Carlos),
Just to clarify something the bolt that the mechanic at the dealer was tightening is just for the oil pressure probe which it shouldn't affect on any way the boost at all.
As per the boost reading, well I haven't had a HKS EBC since 1996 but I know they are moody. Sometimes the fluctuate due to various reasons. I know that the HKS comes with a electrical independent solenoid but there are many factors that could affect the boost readings.
Are you taking the reading from the stock Mitsubishi gauge or fro the boost controller itself?
Recheck your boost lines, if something had occur is mostlikely a tiny leak which fully describe your problem(now you have to make the EBC force the turbo to boost more compare to before.)

I know the oil temp gauge has nothing to do with boost but i have the mitsu gauge cluster and the boost gauge is right next to it i figured they messed something up. But i already replaced all the hoses on the EVC and the boost gauge itself thinking the dealer might have messed something up in there.
See i had Buschur racing install the EVC when i was down there and it worked GREAT!!!! This was in late march last year. I ran the car thru the whole summer nothing changed. I got the the dealer mid septemeber last year, i go pick the car up i drove home everything is all ****ed up. I mean this car held 22 psi at 68 pts on the evc, the "seat of my pants" dyno barely noticed a difference with the boost taper. Tonight i hit 20.7 psi i have the damn evc on 70 pts. its like 65 degrees here not too hot not to cold. I heard stories about the evc fluctuating like that but i can't set it to go higher than it already is so i think somethings wrong.
I don't think its just fluctuation with the evc. I was using the lil monitor, the boost gauge is all the way on the bottom of the center console to its hard to look down there and drive. I had a few people tell me to just get a manual but i know teh evc works great and i don't see the need to spend anymore money than i already did on the evc. I was just hoping this happened to someone else also and they knew what it was and how they fixed it.. Thx for your input tho.

Check your gain settings to see if someone might have messed with them. If the car is spooling up much slower than before this may be the cause. I would really recommend enabling the password protect lock mode when you must drop the car at the dealer. When techs see knobs and shiny things that deviate from the daily routine of shop life they get antsy.
Thx for helping guys. I reset the evc so it goes to default. That didn't help me.. i last time i spoke with the hks tech she said to try to play with the offeset.. i put it down to 97% but it didn't do anything, (nothing changed) boost was still the same. I asked what it would cost to have my evc inspected out of warranty and theres a 120 service fee just for looking at it and the tech told me they charge 300 and up for repairs if theres anything wrong. Im probably just gonna end up going manual, this is alot of headaches and im actually getting depressed driving around in a slower version of what my car used to be
you know the same thing is happening to me now? i have a thread on this as well, but i got tuned a few weeks ago, and the car was boosting to 28psi with meth no problem in 3rd on the hks evc 5...last night im out with the car and the max i hit is 24 psi..setting are the same, 98 with 100 offset, and i cant get past 24 psi
i dont have a boost leak, and my bov isnt leaking, so im at a loss as to whats goign on with the car
granted, it was a bit humid last night and in the 70's, but i thought evc's arent affected by weather changes like mbcs??? would weather make a 4psi difference?

I don't have the filters in mine so i know they're not clogged, i played with the offset some more and dropped it to 92% i actually went up very little like half a psi. my peak boost reading hit 21.4 last night from 20.9 previous night. Thing is at my setting (70) I should be getting like high 23 psi area. I want to put it back to my original setting of 68 to get my 22 but at that setting now i only hit 19 or so and it doesn't hold boost very well anymore. im just afraid one day ill be driving and the damn evc will decide to work and hit 24 psi. I had the evc change its mind and decide to work normally 2 or 3 times, its so weird...... but im gonna have a friend look at it today ill report back if i get any good news thx guys....
Well i haven't gotten around to have my buddy check my car but i have concluded that its officially possessed lol..... so about 2 or 3 days ago my boost peak jumped to 22.4, yesterday it hit 23.0 funny thing is i haven't changed anysettings or anything else on the car.... i think the 23 was a fluke tho b/c it only happened that once i have been able to repeat teh 22.4 tho. It still tapering more than what it used to but it seems to stay at low 20 now alittle bit better than the 19 i was getting so im still confused but a little happier lol.... c ya

Also if you need the official HKS instructions for setting the EVC V up they are on the forums. I know mine didn't come with any.
