Cheapest turbo upgrade?

I searched and couldnt find anything.
But basically iam looking for the cheapest, most effective turbo upgrade route.
I currently have all the mods in sig. I dont think the 20g interest me, cause iam looking for more then 30whp. My hopes would to be 400whp safely.
Is there a kit out there right now, that i could basically bolt and not have to many other worries, whats the cheapest one? What about the tcase, do i need to start worrying about it now that i might hit 400whp? I got a good clutch, so should be good there.
This of course is a DD, so keep that in mind. 35r prob wouldnt suit me. Maybe 30r?
Lets here some suggestions.
Thanks

Are you looking to run straight pump? Or are you planning on running meth? And do you have the supporting mods? You may want to look into getting some cams, gauges, headstuds, fuel pump, ect. It's not as easy as just bolting up a turbo.. You have to get a good tune and you have to have the supporting mods to go along or things will just start breaking. But if you're looking for a turbo good for only 93 oct. then the 50 trim is a good one and the 3071. Meth, probably 3076 or something along those lines.

Pump (91 here damnit).. Like i said, only mods i have are in sigs, tbe, mbc, clutch, dropin.
I planned to run just pump. I have a good local tuner, so thats solved.
Shouldnt the stock engine be good for only 400whp? I have a IX if that answers anymore questions.

Yes, the stock bottom ends can handle 500+ hp, the evo engines are very strong. I would just go with the 50 trim. It has a rep of the "ultimate pump turbo"

There is a fellow selling a brand new APEX-i/IHI RX-6 turbo kit asking $3500/offer in the For Sale Forum. This is a really high quality JDM kit with an IHI ball bearing turbo. The kit is totally complete with a most beautiful stainless header. The same kit used on the very fast Sparco Evo.

Now maybe you can find a cheaper kit, if all you want is cheap. But, a top quality 50 trim or 30R kit is gonna cost you $4300+ and it wont be any better in quality than this JDM kit. If I had the money I would jump on it.

+1. I wouldn't reccommend getting the cheapest kit out there. I'd worry about quality of the kit even if that meant waiting a while. I waited almost a year for my AMS 35r kit and the wait made it worthwhile.

if you don't mind me asking, what is the most psi you will run on pump gas
(91) 20, 23?
Why put in a turbo that can run 30 psi if you can't use it? Or is there something I am not understanding about bigger turbos?

No such thing as a cheap turbo upgrade. You start modding - its neverending. Be sure to have a "repairs" fund set aside.

Personally, I would do some more modding to your IX prior to upgrading the turbo. The IX is a very capable engine/turbo combination. Look into getting a Walbro FP, LICP, O2 housing, ARP headstuds and cams (i saw a thread stating works is coming out w/ cams for the 9). If that doesn't work, you can run water/meth injection that will give you over 400 whp.

I equate cheapest turbo kit with someone saying cheapest dentist, or cheapest plastic surgeon. You get what you pay for.

And from your sig if you think you have clutch problems now, try adding some more horses.

What is up cloudy? long time no see... Have you consider installing a good alcohol/methanol kit and a couple of bolt ons? The methanol and a couple of simple bolt ons might give you the ultimate 30whp that you are looking for before you jump into a different turbo.

Just my .2c.

How is your car running by the way?, I haven't seen you in a while. Take care!!

Had, being the keyword with clutch problems. Got a new clutch.
Would it be worth say, getting a 20g and a water/meth kit? or just get the water/meth kit and save for a bigger turbo in the far future?
Out of curiousty, how much meth do people go through?
