I also did 272s cams,02 housing, and ported the manifold and the hotside. This leak definitely prevented me from feeling the difference, I hope when I drive it tomorrow, it will be gone...

was it the gasket from the compressor outlet to the outlet pipe? or just loose outlet pipe to lower pipe? my viii turbo was MISSING a piece of that gasket. as someone mentioned earlier.

No the gasket to the turbo and to the outlet pipe is new, so I doubt that is leaking. The loose connection was the licp to the outlet pipe.

I just retighten all the the pipes and hose connections and im still geting the loud high pitch sound on spool up. I know I haven't done a boost leak test, but it is really loud and now it makes me wonder if a leak can make such a loud noise. I guess I'm just going to wait til friday when we boost leak test it....

How did you evaluate the compressor wheel? If I were you, I would put a finger on it to feel the blades. Often you can feel imperfections and bends that your eye can't see.

We found the problem yesterday. We found boostleak where the turbo outlet pipe bolts on the turbo and exhaust manifold leak. I also found today that where my wga connects to the flapper is slightly open, it had no tension at all from the rod. So far I fixed the exhaust manifold leak and the wga, and the difference is noticeable. I am now spooling way earlier than before. The high pitch sound is minimal now, more of a small whistle rather than a screaming sound before. Tomorrow I will fix the leak from the turbo outlet pipe and hopefully the small whistling sound will be gone for good.

Ram,

Thanks for calling me ( less than an hour ago) and letting me know that you fixed it. Here are just a couple of paragraph of one of my responses that I sent you this week over the PM:

"Are you sure the noise is just a high pitch or is like a ticking noise. The ticking noise is normally related to air leaks through headers or o2 housing.

I am wondering if the flapper was bent or partially broken that would cause permanent air leak inside the turbo."

As you can see I was bullseye on my prediction. Having owned 12 turbo cars has made a significant difference in my experience dealing with turbo cars.

Again, I am glad I was able to pitch in significant data.

Carlos

Yea Carlos you definitely know your stuff, I kept in mind all your suggestions and it made things alot easier. Tomorrow i will seal up the leak from the turbo outlet pipe and I hope that is the last thing I have to do before I get tune friday. Thanks!

Add a little smidge of gasket maker to the outlet pipe turbo gasket. Had the exact same leak (I bet more people have that than know about it - that gaskets sucks). Works wonders...

Glad you got everything fixed. That happened on my old 240 w/ SR20 when it rolled into a ditch. Basically blew out all the gaskets on the exhaust side. Was making the sound you described. Should have mentioned it earlier, but didnt know exactly what kind of whinning noise you were talking about. Once you said exhaust leak that damn noise came back and haunted me in my mind....
