just changed diff fluid.

This might be a useless post but..

I just changed the rear diff fluid.
Man...what a pain in the a$$.
I had a pump but it still mad a mess on the floor.

The fluid smells so bad I can't even describe it. Almost makes me want to throw up if I try to remember the smell (smells almost like old rotten eggs).
My only hope is the front will be less messy to do with a funnel.

I remember that smell...Just be glad you don't do it every 3,000 miles. I found the rear easier to change then the front.

I am sticking with stock fluids in the transfer case and rear diff.

I am also using stock tranny fluid but I might be changing out to BG synchro II for the winter time during colder temp.

I've heard good and bad things about the BG syn II for our 6spd so I'll let you know once I change it.

I think I have some air in my clutch fluid. I might have not bled it correctly when I took out the restrictor last week.
It seem a bit harder to shift after I bled the clutch.

For anyone attempting to change your diff fluid, you better have some goggles and latex gloves because that crap smells horrible..

and...try not to get it in your mouth...even a little bit. Tastes very nasty.
Dont ask me how I know.

rear diff is prob the easiest, you just need the write pump so it's not a messy job.

The bad smell is from the Limited Slip Modifier that's already added. That is a very nasty odor, takes a couple of days to forget.

I was pumping the fluid in and the pump hose came out and spit some of it towards my lip.
I just had thise wierd notion to lick it a bit.
Oh man...the taste is like nothing you've tasted before.
I almost hurled right after. It was more like little drop but tastes nasty none the less.

I had to wash out my mouth with mouth wash like 5 times.

differential fluid change should be easier than tranny fluid change due to the way less volume. use cups to hold fluid and very very small pump or large syringe will make the job much easier.

I am getting one of those large syringe. It makes sense.
I think all you need to do is add some hose to the end of it so you can fill a bit easier.

Thanks for the idea.

I use some ketchup/mustard bottles I got from the dollar store. I just cut the tip hole a little bigger and the fluid flows fine. No mess no fuss, works quite well for the rear diff. Gotta refill it once or twice though.

Hey guys make a pump of your own, cut the top on the cap off push a hose to the bottom of the bottle, make sure u have a tight fit, poke a littlle hole in top of bottle, apply a little air pressure. This is what i do at the shop. If u guys need pics i'll post them. Later
