YOu mean grinding occasionally? Yea... happens to mine all the time... temporarily solved it using a different gear oil though.. Just means the synchro ring needs replacement thats all..

Yeah, it's a habitual problem and it's been discussed many times. Many evo owners have had their 5th gear synchro replaced, only to have the grind come back later down the road. 5th grinds for me, in the same situation...only when I'm redlined in 4th and slamming it into 5th.

From what I've read, a dealership won't do anything about it, unless it occurs under "normal driving conditions" and I don't think redlining 4th @ 114mph and shifting into 5th falls under that category

yep that 5th gear sucks what i do is from 4th to 5th not change fast cause it kind of griinds but with normal driving it shifts fine!
i had the 2nd gear grind before but to cure it i installed an engine damper that fixed 2nd gear grind but 5th gear is still the same!
also change your gearbox oil this may help!

It shouldn't be grinding, another thing that has caused it for some EVO owners in the past is the clutch pedal engagement point. Set it too low and you will get a grind at higher RPMs. There is a write up on how to adjust that ...

I change all my oil to redline heavyduty shock proof in the transfer case and rear diff. and put lightduty shock proof in the transmission and front diff. it solved the grinding 0f 2 3 and 5. its worth giveing a try.
