4g63 block differences

Hi, All

I'm fairly new to dsm engines and just had a few questions. I'm basically looking for a spare block for my 9. I'm going to get a stroker kit, but I don't want to pull my engine until I have a finished stroked short block to replace it. So my questions are...

What are the generations of the 4g63 and which ones are compatible with a mivec head?

Where can I locate said block either new (other then the dealer) or used?

I hope I didn't irritate any one but I didn't find anything useful with the search.

Thanks for looking!

the only block that will work with a mivec head is a block from a mivec head engine

Thanks for responding! The dealer told me something different, that the head could be changed throughout the last generation of engines. Some I have talked to have mentioned taping oil ports. And I am familiar with the first gen with the tranny on the right side of the engine. So I'm aware that a 1st gen won't work.

Do you know why the mivec head won't work on say an evo VIII block. I have bean building import race engines for about 12 years so you won't confuse me. Thanks Again!

I wish I knew I'll try and find out. How much are you wanting and what year is it?

The later 4Gxx engines have additional oil drain holes relative to the early blocks, I am not sure what year that changed for the evo specifically though.

Now I'm really confused so mivec on the evo only controls timing and not duration?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIVEC

Then it's very possible the blocks are the same. If that's the case then all these 2nd gen parts I see all over will work.

I think the mivec system works on the cam gear itself and advances timing that way if you are going to use an evo 5 6 7 block the water pump is different and you will have to get one to suit. Why not ditch the mivec altogether

ix block does indeed have different oil cooling setup over the viii so ix engine only would be safe
