egt tapping into manifold????????

hey all. i just want to get an opinion on where to tap it. im thinking right into the manifold. where would you say is the best spot to tap the manifold. also how many of you have had a problem with it braking or what not and messing somthing up.

or

into the o2 housing. this way if it brakes it dont mess the turbo up but still getting a good reading. i got the works o2 housing. i would tap it closest to the turbo as i can.

i got the defi bf egt just so you know what im dealing with.

i Just did mine sat.. I drilled the hole about 2 inches back from the block on the number 2 cylinder, right before its collects from all the other cylinders... you can go to EVOMOTO.com and they have a nice write up on it. just take your time drilling it sprayin lube on it as you go. Cast iron will crack easy if you dont take your time. then when you tap it just make sure you get good threads the whole way down. then just screw the fitting in and snug her down.

I agree the manifold is the best for reading. Deisel trucks run them at he DP but for accuracy and know who hot ur EGTs are right out of the head is the most important part of even having the EGT.

i understand butg the point is to keep it as close to the hotest point you can. hence why im picking o2 or manifold. otherwize the down pipe would be the place i do it. as most do.

There is a theory that u should tap it at the runner at the end of the fuel rail due to the least amount of flow there compared to the other injectors using all the fuel before the last one on the rail causing it to be leaner. Being the leanest=Hottest Cylinder.

I ve had mine in my DSM for 3 1/2 yrs now at over 400WHP and never broken a probe. Ive never worried about it. I usually run 27-29 psi in that car, GT30R.

The only way I could think of a probe braking would be over tightening or something else hitting it(broken valve maybe) I wouldnt worry about the probe braking. There moderatly thick. usually 1/8npt thread.

NOTE: If tappiing the mani make sure ur take the manifold OFF the car cause u dont want shards of cast iron going thru ur exhuast side of ur turbo.

Right, but you can also drill it and tap it with the car running b/c it will blow the shards back away from the stream.

I more or less followed this. Drilling with the exhaust manifold
while idling had so much pressure, it blew the shavings right out.

It worked out ok, perhaps I was lucky.
