Anyone bleed lifters w/cams still in?
Here is my story in just installed some cams and soon after i can hear a tick at around 2-3000rpm when i rev it up or when i drive it. I do not hear it at idle though, which i thought you should if it was a lifter. My friends and girl tell me it is nothing but i can hear it and it is driving me crazy. I did not bleed the lifters I have heard many well known shops say they do not. I have tried revving the car slowley to 3000rpm 30 times like the service book says, i just changed the oil (10w30) mobil 1 and added some lucas oil additive and still no luck. The sound is more defined when the engine is cold. Now my question is should i go back in a try to bleed the lifters and if so can i use the method that you can do it with out taking out the cams and has anyone done this like on the old DSM's?? Could i have a collapsed lifter? Or should i just i just live with it? LIke i said i can not hear it at idle and i have to have the radio off with the windows up to hear it when driving. Any help would be much appreciated.
The reason you are bleeding the lifters is so that the higher lift of the cam will break the seals inside the lifter due to the cam creating pressure and it having to much oil inside the lifter.
Basically there is no need to bleed the lifters now because the damage is done if any was caused. I would just live with it especially if you can't hear it without being in the engine bay with the car running.
