ok so my 9 has had a problem that has actually happened twice now.... the car has 2k miles on it. The botom shift linkage cable keeps popping off. The 1st time I was shifting the car kinda hard so i figured i did somethin wrong. But tonight it did it again shiftin very slowly from 1st to 2nd at like 10mph! The 1st time everything just popped off with the cotter pin still attached this time the cotter pin broke and the washer fell off... We did a quick temp fix to get me bye using a nylon washer.
is this somethin somewhat common or did i just get the 1 Evo that decided to break wierd parts?

When you drove in to my garage I thought that it was kind of BS that a car so new would already give you such problems, the you told me about the water radiator hose exploding and your tire also exploding, so you got me to think at first that your car was a lemon.
After we installed the air filter you were rolling out of my garage and heading towards your house all the sudden the cable snapped from its position.
Not only that but you almost lost the rubber bushing as well, it was almost about to fell off.
This is excatly what happened:
1) cotter pin and metal washer were completly gone and no where to be found(possibly cotter pin snapped)
2) As Justin drove away and as he was shifting he heard a metal nosie(like something falling off), the he lost most of his gears. The cable actually popped out of place leaving him virtually with only 2 gears
3) I used a R/C car servo steering nylon wheel as a washer. I also used a cotter pin used to secure the lexan bodies of the R/C cars. This cotter pin did eventually replace the original Mitsubishi cotter pin
4) I had to drill a hole in the center of the nylon washer so that it would match the cable/linkage pin
5) Managed to squeeze the cable/linkage pin through the whole, it was tight enought that it wouldn't slide back or forward. Re- attached my own cooter pin from my R/C cars.
It took us about 30 minutes to find the hardware from my garage and custom built the piece but we manage to have him back on the road.
Just for references guys, if the drill bit is too small or too big you can also use a pair of sccisors and work the inner hole diamater out slowly.
In case you can't find a cotter pin you can also use small nails, paper clips and even stripped wire (without insolator).
I asked Justin to please open the topic as a informative topic so that if you guys are stranded on the road and you see this topic at least you might be able to get yourself back in the road again.

say I am having the same problems/symptoms but all my linkage is connected propperly and appears to be moving correctly. I have lost 1-2 but have 3-4-5-R. any ideas? I was thinking shift fork?
