CEL not coming on for disconnected catback o2 sensor
So I finished up putting back my stock downpipe, stock evo9 catback and 3" resonated testpipe with o2 bung hole.
I put on the o2 sensor onto the testpipe. I instantly notice this will not work because the o2 sensor is too long and will rub against the driveshaft. Basically I'm screwed. Theres no place to put the o2 sensor at all.
So I tie up the o2 sensor wiring and leave it hanging on the car. I drive to work and back. The CEL does not come on. Maybe I avoided a bullet for now.
I plan on getting another aftermarket catback anyway. Should I be worried driving around for now like this? Any idea what happens when the o2 sensor is not sensing or reading anything?

Your going to ruin your 02 sensor by leaving it hanging like that and driving around also your CEL is going to come on just give it time. If you have to leave the o2 the way it is I would suggest wrapping it up in something. Honestly I would just disconnect it and save yourself the money from buying a replacement sensor.

I'll see if I can turn the testpipe upside down or not.
I tied the o2 sensor so it would not drag onto the ground/floor. The o2 bung on the testpipe I have has a plug for it. So I used that.

I have the turbo xs turbo back on my 9. The system has a bung in both the catback and the test pipe and the DP. I put my sensor in the catback. its been there since last week with no CEL. The non fouler worked at first but then it broke in half beasue of clearance issues. If you are familiar with these little non foulers, you will realize that they are dtwo peices. The 02 sensor only fits inside the one. the other is too shallow. I just drilled the one out enough for it to fit properly. By doing this I have eliminated the clearance issue, and it looks like the sensor is far enough out of the exhaust stream to not throw a CEL.
Its not going to ruin it by dragging on the ground. Its going to ruin it because its getting power and reading the wrong air right now. Im pretty sure those o2 sensors need to be heated up when they are running. Turn your testpipe upside down. Or better yet, run the aftermarket exhaust you bought and put your cat back on. Those sensors are $300 plus, you dont want to ruin it.
Most exhausts you buy are going to come with another bung for a sensor, since VIII's sensor was after the cat. Either that or a muffler shop will charge you like 20 bucks to put another bung in. I just did that for my wideband, took 5 mins.
