And I know for a fact that I have not abused the car.
It's funny all the folks here are saying that the evo's they have or have ridden in don't have the issue that mitsubishi is telling us all the evo's have..... makes you wounder when you get one story from the factory and another from the owners.....
Show me where Mitsu is telling us that there is a problem with our cars. They are not saying that there is a problem with ALL of our Evo's. In isolated cases, they have been doing warranty covered repairs. But that is in no way to be considered as Mitsu admitting to a fault in our cars.
All I know is that there have been a handful of people on this board who have had parts replaced due to a whining/grinding noise in their tranny's, or due to clutch wear. All but one or two of them also admitted to driving the car pretty hard during it's break-in and after.
I have had my car out on race tracks and have accumulated about 200 miles of track driving on my Evo. I have also driven 5500 miles of mostly city (stop and go) driving. I also broke the car in properly and I am not hard on the trans. I do not drag race.
I am not using this as an excuse to belittle anyone elses bad experience with their Evo. I'm using it to show that not all or even a majority of the Evo's are having Trans issues. So it is not fair to paint the Evo as having a problemed transmission until we see a lot more instances of an ACTUAL MITSU DIAGNOSED CONDITION.
None of this, "I hear noises" stuff is worth a damn...It's doesn't show that there is a problem with the car. All it proves is that the owner of the car is a possibly a little hypersensitive about his new purchase.
But if he was really that worried about it, he would bring it to a dealership for diagnosis right away.....boostedwrx....I'm lookin at you!

I'm not saying you don't have a problem... But based on your description, it seems that there's some possibility that Mitsubishi has replaced some perfectly good transmissions?

What is "Abuse" exactly? If there was a failure and you did even one clutch drop, I'd say that you abused your car. If you downshift and don't rev match, I'd say that is abuse also.

I get your point. And you just made mine. I was told by my dealer that techline said the noise I hear is enherant to ALL evo's. It obviously is not hence there is a problem with my vehicle and mitsubishi should fix it.
im just wondering y the hell any of yall with tranny problems or sounds or noises are still driving your cars? first off, CALL MITSUBISHI themselves and speak to official warrantee people. they will tell you to document everything, who u spoke to, when u spoke with them, what the problem is, dates and times. if i was yall, I WOULD HAVE WENT TO THE DEALER SHIP, DROPPED THE CAR OFF, FORCED THEM TO GIVE ME A LOANER AND LEFT. LET MITSU DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM. YOU'RE PAYING TO DRIVE AROUND A BROKEN CAR.(and if its your only car, you really need a loaner. and if they dont do loaners, they will now)......when you put ur foot down, mitsu will listen, im getting ALL NEW ROTORS AND PADS installed on friday. (were ordered last thursday and came in yesterday) when Mistu wants to fix something, they will fix it. u just may have to coax them. Dropping your car off at the dealership and leaving it with them is exactly the coaxing they need. tell them "you keep it, i dont wanna drive this piece of shiet. it sounds like its gonna blow up" they will definitely listen because how could they tell you otherwise? im loooking forward to enacting the lemon law on my Evo when the brakes fail for the 3rd time.

I have already called MMC and left a case number couple days ago. Also I am not saying the car is broken, it just has a bad design with noise coming from the clutch. If I paid 30 plus on a car I shouldn't have this kind of problem.
Deceleration noise can be any number of things. On DSMs, the common deceleration noise is worn out driveshaft carrier rubber.
On my car, the common deceleration noise is when the rubber bushing I put between my 2.5" intercooler piping and the frame of my car comes loose and I get metal to metal contact.
It could also be a loose heat-shield.
It could be any number of things that are NOT the transmission.

When I downshift especially to 4th, 3th I hear the tranny "grinding sounds" from 4500 through 2800 RPM. I just bought the car this past weekend and have 100+ miles. I then went into the dealer and drove a similar '04 RS heard noise but not the grinding but was not able to hit the same RPMs. Maybe will have to go back and try again. When I try the same when my car is cold its hard to tell but when its been on the hwy I hear it clearly.
Any thoughts would be appreciated...
