Got bored... made me a COLD AIR intake
yes you read the title right i was bored at home and realized there had to be a way of pulling cooler air from outside to the air filter since no damn company makes a cold air kit for the evo. Now i understand why because there is no room.
I bent a piece of old ic pipe off of my old wrx and then ran it from the right hole in the front bumper up to the underside of the filter... technically it doesn't work that great under 40 mph's but when you get on the freeway at night in cold weather...God Damn!!! i can actully feel the diffrence...and it was free. it really sucks becuase i can not dyno this to prove it becuase you have to be moving, but i know it works and my passengers could feel the diffrence too.
and it is stealth you can't even tell its there.
here are the pics. check them out. when the pipe is glowing that means i had the drop light at the other end . it juz gives you a better picture.

Sounds great....Here are a few recommendations that you could likely do :
(1) Enclose (box it) the air intake filter so that can only take in cold air
(2) Then pipe the cold air intake directly into the air box
(3) With regards to Dynoing -- my recommendation would be to use Evoscan & Dataloglabs software and get a real road dyno before and after result...You could also just use Evoscan in third gear and see how long it takes you to go from 2.5K to 7K rpm (before vs. after)
I look forward to reading your results

yeah i wanted to box it but i am not the greatest welder in the world and i don't want it to turn out like ****... so far im happy with it... i think i will attempt to box but im going to take my time to see what i can come up with.

I did the same thing using an intake hose that autozone sells for $20. It is black in color and pretty damm strong for plastic hose. I was able to squeez it through the hole between the front headlight and the ACD fluid reservoir. I have it coming right up to the side of the filter, I think you should try and extend the top of the pipe to lead closer to the filter.
You also need to add flare or funnel on the end of the pipe to cram more air in...
what did you paint your rims w/, what color, and how'd you do it?
