AWD launch and boost ?

I am wanting to try an AWD launch. I seem to be having some problems. Should I see any boost while reving before the launch. I can't get the car to boost while in neutral or in 1st gear with the clutch pressed. I just installed the boost gauge last week and it appears to be working fine. I'm also new to owning a turbo.

You're gonna have little to no boost on the launch, because there's no load on the motor. If U keep bliping the throttle before the launch, U may get 1 to 2psi. Don't worry about that.

Launch at 5500rpm at the very least, or else your car will bog. Make SURE you grab the steering wheel tight and hold it straight, or else the launch may send you and your car into a tree, guardrail, curb, parked car, oncoming traffic, pedestrians, animals, light poles, street signs, blind people, houses, or worst yet, your girlfriend/wife/fiance. Anyway, I launch between 5500 and 6500, depending on conditions. You should too. Be aware that the stock clutch will not last very long if U launch a lot.

Thanks.

What about wet roads? I read your post about launching with wet rubber. Is it any easier on the clutch in wet conditions? Should I launch at a different RPM?

I used to launch my GSX with boost by flooring it a split second before the launch. With it floored boost will build.
I never did it regularly, feared for the life of my drivetrain...

If your tires are wet, launch a little lower, between 5000 and 5500rpms or so, depending on how wet.

I usually slip the clutch out VERY fast, but not to the point that I'm really dumping it, but I can tell you this, it's healthier to dump it than to ride it out. Yes, I'm gonna get flamed for that because everyone will talk about drivetrain shock or whatever, but know that all that power tries to get to the wheels, and the clutch will absorb some of it, and the rest goes to tire spin, if any. The stock Evo clutch, in my opinion, is too weak to do crazy drivetrain shock.

If you try to slip the clutch out and be gentle on the drivetrain, you're gonna end up smoking the clutch, which isn't fun.

Yes, definitely better burning clutches than breaking drivetrain parts.

AWD is harsh on the drivetrain, so in a way, the weak stock clutches are good.

i find that the best launch for me is to blip the throttle and keep the rpms fluctuation between 3k and 5k rpm, and one more good blip and then drop the clutch keeping the foot on the throttle. (the lower rpms keeps from smoking the clutch..) but if you want to just blip it between 5000 and 6500 for a real hard launch.

I find that slipping the clutch and holding the e-brake will help build boost faster, but is bad on the clutch. MSD ignition sells that idle unit that for launching will hold your rpms at a certain preset level with the gas pedle floored. Then when you let off the switch it releases and lets your motor rev past your launching rpm. I have heard good things about the system, but have not tried it out yet.
When I try it out I'll post some info

when you launch at 5500 do you just hold it right at 5500 and then go, or do you fluctuate(sp)?
