I told Mitsu they should do it and they did! 
Aluminum is a lightweight alloy, I imagine thats why. Lightweight retainers mean they can run a slightly "softer" spring, increasing engine efficiency by not having to constantly compressor a valvespring w/ a higher spring rate.
Similar principals as why they used hollow camshafts. It takes less energy to rotate them.
