clutch install!! HELP

ok so yesterday i spend the whole day in CT at Pruven. i first want to say thank you to John and Kenny (i think thats their names) for the great work and staying late because of a malfunction.

ok so heres the problem/question. just so u know, they installed a ACT MB7-HDSS clutch and pressure plate with a prostreet online lightened flywheel. so on the way home when comming to a slow stop i noticed a loud high pitch kinda noise. it sounds like someone was running there wet finger over a crystal glass. i only notice it when comming to a stop and the weird part about it is that the clutch can be ingaged or disengaged. and this is all without touching the breaks.

so i have ruled out squeeky breaks and i dont even know if its the clutch. i have absolutly no idae what the hell this noise could be comming from and i need your help guys and gals. i will see if i can get ahold of Pruven later but its kinda worring me a little. please if u have any coments on what it would/could be let me know.

ps. the car feels awesome, clutch feels awesome and i love the lightened flywheel.

pss. again want to thank Pruven.

Running a wet finger over a crytsal glass...I am trying to think what that sounds like...

What are you and the car doing when it makes this noise? I need more details.

think of a loud high pitch hum.

when the noise occurs its when im comming to a slow stop like at a stop light. like i said i can have the clutch pedal push to the floor and it not in gear and it will still make the noise. its weird.

Does the noise go away when you start braking?

As you describe it, it sounds like high perf. pads. Did you check all the squeal bars on the bads? Maybe one got bent somehow (or you have worn pads and its time to change)? Once those touch the rotor you get the sound off braking.

Does it get worse?

If you look at a pad set (per corner) one pad will have a thin metal flang attached to it. When you wear the pads down to a point this flang will come in contact with your rotor and make a sqealing sound. Its a reminder that you have worn pads and you should change them soon.

If you look at the right pad in this pic (sorry not an Evo pad - but we have them too) you can see the wear bar)

It is possible they bent the back heat shield on the back of the rotor. I have done this before and may be making a similar noise.

I have that noise sometimes in my spec stage III clutch (six puck). It only happens when I am in stop and go taffic and am slipping the clutch alot slower than I usually do during medium/light traffic. As long as the clutch grabs hard, does not slip while in gear, and doesn't lock you out at high rpms, I chalk it up to the miserable driveability of an aggressive clutch.

just took the car out and i think its the break pads, seem to me like it has been misaligned somehow.

its very low speed sound, and its not a so much screatching as it is singing. i really think its the breaks. i am going to take the wheel off and see what i can see.
