EBC troubleshooting

Last time I bug you guys on this I swear Well the boost controller is installed and everything is put back together. Now just have to test everything. I documented everything so I'll post an install for everyone. I know, I know, why would you want to follow instructions from someone who had so many difficulties along the way. Well, because there's no other install guides out there and I actually made a very clean install and it follows the instructions to the letter.

Here's my problem. Hopefully someone can pinpoint it quickly. Everything powers up fine and data is reading correctly. Lots of little features with this unit. I get on the road and start doing some WOT runs in 3rd and 4th with boost settings stock. I don't feel JACK! I am getting boost however but only a paltry 10psi PEAK! DAMN! So I change the boost setting and add a +15 ratio to boost. I get up to 14.4 psi peak. STILL feels weak as hell and way below stock spec. The boost does taper off a little past 5500 rpms. All of the hoses are connected and on firm. Possible boost leak but that doesn't explain why I'm not hitting peak stock boost. Or does it? I double checked all of the connections and everything seems to be fine. Any ideas?

I had the same problem.....its in teh settings. Try going into the 60-70% percent range. When you dialed in 15%...it doesnt "add" additional boost to your stock settings. I think it is meant that you are running 15% of the total capacity (This is what I was told). Jsut keep turnign it up until ur desire peak psi. I cant understand the logic of setting boost to add additional 15% but getting less boost then stock.

I'm gonna check for a crimped hose first. Cuz when I turn it OFF it's supposed to run stock boost pressure. Well if 10psi is stock I got serious issues. The car feels terrible at that setting. It's supposed to be a ratio modifier. Basically 0-100%. I'm going to fiddle with it until it works right. Everything is hooked up correctly so I can't figure it out.

I just found out that with the optional harness for the Blitz SBC-iD you can get ECU readings such as A/F water temp, voltage, etc. I'm all over that.

Hey, stock boost on the factory wastegate actuator IS 10psi. Stock boost doesn't mean what your car runs, from the factory. The 10psi that you're getting is what the factory wastegate actuator is set for. This means that with the factory boost solenoid bypassed (straight line fron compressor housing to the gold nipple), you will only get 10psi, all the way through redline. The 19/16.5psi that you get when you drive your car stock.... it's controlled by the factory boost solenoid. It's pretty much like a factory set boost controller.

I know what your going through.
I had the same feeling.

What i did was set the gain to 45, just to get the response back.
and the ratio to 56(~19psi).

For some reason setting the gain to 5-15 like the manual says doesn't get the response i was looking for.
(use the graphic mode visualize your boost)

Hope this helps

btw, no boost spikes, it just hits 19 psi and stays steady.

(At gain 15 and 56 ratio, it hits 19 psi and tapers down a little.

I have mine set at 5 gain and 68 boost ratio it boosts to 19.5 with ocasional peaks of 20.4. It seems to be alot more responsive than stock. We have two EVO 8s one with the boost controller and one has not been installed yet.
Note- I am still experimenting with settings and am open for suggestions.

cool. are you guys using a blitz sbc-id also? I'm going to try cranking it up to see what happens. Then I'll know if something's wrong or not.

Well all is well. I set the ratio to 70 and gain to 30. Hit over 21psi but I set my warning to 21psi so it dropped it back down for me. Dropped the gain to 20 and set the ratio to 68 so it hits around 20.4-20.6. My butt dyno isn't really feeling much more. It may be because of the 91 octane retarding the power. I'd like to get it on a dyno to see what the gains are just from this little extra juice. I may hit the track soon so I'll know from that too. Looks like my install was done right I'll post the install as soon as I download the pics off my camera.

I just finished installing the sbc-id in my fathers EVO, I used the same settings I have been using and the results seem to be identical. Now to start experimenting with the gain settings.

I never get spikes at all. I have it set to 68 as well but my gain is at 25. This gives me 20.4-20.8 psi. High end is in 4th gear. Setting the gain to 30 definitely noticeable faster spooling. But it feels like it wants to drop at high rpms. It will also get you really close to 21psi. I'll probably hit the track this saturday and test a couple of different settings. I'll let you know how it goes.

I have a power enterprises boost controller. I think my setup may be a little goofed. I installed the new controller as if I was just replacing the stock one. I did not cap off the nipple on the intake pipe. A hose from the stock boost controller went there.
Is it better to go from the actuator and from the bottom of the turbo (nipple on intercooler piping below turbo) straight to the solenoid using seperate lines and removing the stock tee? The stock tee went to the actuator and to the bottom of the turbo, coming out of the stock boost controller. Also then capping the nipple on the intake pipe? Any help, please.
