Anyone install Open Air filter yet??

Im curious about the open filter elements that are available for the EVO. Like the HKS Megaflow or whatever with intake pipe, anyone installed this? I actually want to hear the turbo on my EVO, and its kind of hard with all the intake plumbing it currently has. I hear the engine moreso than the turbo at this point.

Also - Could Mitsu deny warranty for open intakes? I thought so, but I wanted some other opinions. The only thing im worried about is my tranny, I don't see how they could deny any warranty if i've been complaining about it since day 1. Worse case scenario would be running lean and do possible engine damage, but I don't see how they could relate it back to the tranny... but ya know...

there are several kits out there from known aftermarket suppliers - if you poke around this forum and the Evo General forum I am sure you can find reviews, install instructions, and pricing information.

look in the engine/ drivetrain subsection of the tech forums, or search for buschur intake. Fireball started a thread thats many pages long now with reviews, pictures, how to's etc.

I got the buschur one, $80, very happy with it.. if you want to hear the turbo, thats the one you want.. makes the engine sound like a friggin turbojet when spooled, plus you get a blow off sound.

I've PMed people about different intakes, and everyone said "Dont get the Buschur, get the RMR"

WHat is the difference? They are both just a filter with an adapter...so whats the difference?

The Blitz SUS filter is another option. If you want to hear the turbo the Blitz is certainly the one that will be the loudest for that. It is full stainless mesh and outflows any of the K&N or foam type filters. I find it works great on turbo cars.

The RMR air filter bracket actually "bolts" on to the inside of the engine bay preventing the filter from "jumping" around. Where as the Bushchur adapter is simply just an adapter and does not include a bracket to keep the filter secured.......it's purely your decision. Either way an open airfilter kit will make the stock recirculating bov very audible and a nice engine growl at high rpms
