HKS 280 Cams and WR-8 turbo

I am getting myself a White Rabbit 8 turbo. I know it it not a green so spare the criticism. Right now I have HKS 272 bump sticks and I am considering the 280's. I am going to be using the stock ecu with an ECU+ piggyback to tune.

Now what I am after with this White Rabbit is to have more topend than a stock turbo. I know it can do, although I figured if I am after topend power that the 280's will offer more topend too. Although of course I don't want the cams to be so aggresive that it will overcome the bottom end torque charatceristics. The WR-8 has similar if not better bottom end response and torque as the stocker. I plan to keep the stock valvetrain which will mean shifting somewhere around 7200-7600. Will 280's offer me more performance across the board than the 272's? I have seen posts with a stock turbo with 280's and it seems there is controversey on this. Although with a capable turbo these cams should be better throughout the power band.

Help me think this through!

Very interesting. Would you happen to have a dyno sheet so I can see your torque and power band and maybe a list of your mods. This would help me to make sure I won't be disappointed.

i never had the car on a dyno, the mods are 280 cams, white rabbit turbo, mr bov, helix intake, tilton clutch, fuel pump, custom exhaust with bushur bullet muffler, and a wicked tune from TTP Engineering which was the best money i spent on the car

I have the WR with Revolvers. No troubles with the power, or problem spooling.
The idle lets everyone know you have cams.

My case is OBD2 and passing it, afraid the 280 won't do it. So I am heading back down the cam path.

THe HKS 280's would give you more tunebility and flexibility on cam timing as opposed to the 272's... Ask Ted B, he knows a real good deal about the HKS 280's running with any turbos. I picked up over 30 WHP going from HKS 272's to the 280's on my earlier setup running the Greddy T67 turbo.

Here is a dyno sheet of your turbo Joe This is before my ported exhaust pieces.

This is a very low reading Mustang....with these power numbers the car went 11.57@119 on 94 and meth.

On the stock 05' turbo I put down 376whp on Buschurs dyno with 280's on race gas, on pump it was 346whp. There was a small loss of low end torque but it was not noticeable. I would also like to add that I am not running any aftermarket cam gears.

Thanks,

Eric

Yes as a matter of fact I did. Bald Kumho MX tires, 4th gear grind and cold track temps. I could only get an 11.9 @ 118 on race gas. I tried 3 other times that night and they all got worse.... I kept getting locked out of 4th.

Thats what I was looking for....So 118 was your best trap then...the bald tires will hurt your 60ft but shouldn't affect trap too much. That just gives me a good idea of how much lower the Dyno I was on reads than Buschurs. Which doesn't mean anything but is just good to know...

sorry for the hijack

Yeah that is for sure...300whp on the Payne dyno is a solid 12 second car. I have read about a lot of people being disappointed about that dyno...but in all reality if they want high numbers they should go to Tuninig Factory and get on their dynapack. Then they will "feel" the power.
