o2 sensor question

After recently installing the Ultimate Race test pipe which guarantees not to throw a cel, I threw the cel....my question though is when installing the test pipe you have to relocate the o2 sensor which involves splicing etc...and if the splicing is not done properely or is messed up would the o2 sensor completely not work and throw your car into limp mode? or would it just throw the cel for o2 sensor emmisions ? My concern is not that the cel is thrown but that if I put the cat back in for vehicle inspection that the o2 sensor will still throw the cel. Thankyou for the feedback in advanced.

If you state requires an OBDII inspection, once you put the cat back on the car, you can clear the code. Then you have to drive 100 miles to complete the drive cycle. After that it will be ready for an inspection. This is assuming the O2 sensor is in perfect working condition.

As for being in limp mode, if your on stock boost control, check engine lights usually put the car in limp mode.

If the sensor is no longer hooked up to the test pipe or the cat and just hanging it will be guaranteed to throw a CEL. Where is the O2 sensor now?

First thing is to read the CEL.

IF it was the problem in your splicing it will give some specific CELs.

If it is something with the Test pipe it will give a CEL with IIRC something with too much flow.

So just get the CEL read before you analyze.

The main problem here is that you believe what the vendor told you, as far as I am concern you should already be aware that some vendors would lie in order to sell even their underwear.

I have a Ultimate race pipe on my 05 Evo 8 MR. A test pipe will give you a CEL because you are removing the CAT. You can get away by fooling the o2 sensor with a o2 eliminator electrinc fix or a mechanical o2 sensor fooling plug.

Unless you one of the two items I just mention you will have the CEL. If the test pipe would have been located after the cat/o2 sensor (not the case) then you wouldn't have a CEL but since it is in front of the o2 sensor it will give you a faulty signal.

alright ill take it to autozone tomorrow to see what the cel is, but i thought the ultimate racing pipe was designed not to throw the cel thats what worried me initially, i figured i screwed up on the o2 relocation....if its to much flow ill just order the electronic cel fix thanks for the advice/info carlos and phenix

IT still will in some cases. The best option IMO is running a pair of Antifoulers in the stock position,

No, not at all. On the 05 Evo the rear o2 sensor goes on the cat back piping section therefore after the cat. By placing a test pipe in front of it your 02 sensor will be missreading from the lack of the a cat therefore throwing you the CEL.

That what I did and it worked. The best thing is that it only took one antifouler to do the job. In my opiniojn, the antifouler is the cleanest, fastest and cheapest way to do the job.

Yes One does the Job just fine...

Rule of thumb is the most costly fix is not always the best one.

I have the perrin cel fix, all it took was removing the center console locating the o2 sensor wires and splicing into like like three of those wires and finding a ground. I have not thrown a cel since

This was really timely information. I put a resonated test pipe on my car Friday night and after 200 miles I got a CEL. I'll buy those parts at Autozone and see if it works tomorrow. Thanks guys.
