Exedy Stage 2 four puck clutch - opinions

I just got my Exedy Stage 2 four puck clutch installed professionally about a month and a half ago. I'm finally starting to get used to it a bit, but here's the issue.

It seems that no matter how hard I try to shift smoothly into gears (especially lower gears like 1st and 2nd) it feels like my clutch is just dumping in and grabbin right away. It's funny cause when I have a passenger in my car. . their heads keep wipping forward and back. . lol

Anyway...I know I have a heavier duty clutch and it's supposed to feel different. Is anyone else with this clutch or similar clutch experiencing similar rough shifts??

Since this is a heavier duty clutch will slipping the clutch be less damaging compared to the stock clutch?

The characteristics you are describing are going to be true of any puck style clutch regardless of the manufacturer. If you're looking for smooth stock like engagement you need to get a clutch with an organic disc.

The other charcteristic of a puck style disc is that they do not like to be slipped. The agressive material used is usually hard on the pressure plate friction surface as well as the flywheel.

I'm not sure what kind of torque your making, but unless you absolutely need the additional torque capacity offered by that type of disc, you'd probably be better off switching to the organic disc. Or,just get used to it.

I have the same clutch. You have to get used to the on and off engagement of the clutch. You also need to rev match when shifting. Any attempt to slip will cause shutter especially in first gear. First to second is an easy shift if you get back on the gas to match revs. The only time I have problems is starting in first gear. The shutter can drive you insane but it is a necessary evil to have this type of clutch. I agree that if you want butter smooth clutch engagement then you need to go back to an organic material clutch or man up and get a twin disc. If you don't race any (I drag race) then this is not a very good clutch to have. I use my car as a daily driver too, but I wanted the extra holding power on the strip. Get used to the engagement and rev matching (I finally did) or you need to get a different clutch. Hope this helps.

Read my full review. Although this clutch is very grabby, it should not be causing you to jerk like that every time you shift. It should ONLY be tough getting into 1st, because you have to give it higher rpms to get moving, else it jerks back and forth until it has enough momentum. If you're experiencing this when shifting to the next gear, then I would guess that your clutch pedal adjustment is too low, meaning it is grabbing way down low on the pedal travel. If this is the case, you should just adjust the pedal to engage in the middle or near the top. I tried mine in all 3 orientations, and when it was near the floor, it was tough to drive. In the middle, it was perfect for daily driving and racing.

Here's my review:

Here's my in-car vid using it:

I got the same clutch, however I do not daily drive my Evo.

The only problems I have is speed shifting the car, I shift using the no lift method... my 2/3 shift at 7700 rpm is not smooth at all (gets really jurky). My clutch engagement is in the middle but closer to the top.

My reasoning for getting this clutch was the cost, and I DID NOT want the 7k lock- out caused by the organtic disc's. I had it on the stocker and didn't want it again

My next clutch will be the twin.

do they still make the 4 puck disc, or can you put a 3 puck in?

There's an HD and non-HD version of this clutch....not sure which is which, but one is 3 puck and the other is the 4 puck.
