XS Engineering Intercooler pipe kit questions

I installed racemax hard pipe kit on my Evo yesterday and I am experiencing a whine when I reach boost. I was wondering if this is normal or if I should do some troubleshooting. Could I have an airleak?

Thank you for all your help

George

no it actually increased about a 1psi so I don't think it is a major leak just it sounds like a tea kettle on boil!

It's the flange that connecting from the turbo to the lower intercooler piping that is leaking. If it sound like a supercharger whine, that should be the problem. Usually happen when you over tight those bolts and flex the aluminium flage that cause the air leak.

Bring the lower pipe to the machine shop and resurface the flange. Use new gasket and bigger washer for the bolts. That should fix your boost leak.

It does sound like a supercharger whine but only at part throttle, and also I'm now making more boost than before? The whine happens from 15 to 5 degrees of vacuum once there is boost the sound goes away...

I was wondering could it be the BOV??? I'm still running the stock BOV

I would bet you have a leak , do a boost leak test and come back and tell us what was wrong .

If you dont know how to /dont have a boost leak tester , search for "boost leak tester" and you will find how to build one cheap . They are worth there weight in gold !!

BTW the stock (2003-2004bov) starts leaking @14(ish) psi
