The difference between the HDSS and XTSS is only the clamp load of the pressure plate. Since the increase in clamp load is generated through a change in fulcrum points as well as a stronger diaphragm, the difference in pedal effort between the two is not much. The engagement quality should be identical (smooth, quiet, possibly slight chatter at low rpms in first/rev). Engagement quality is mostly affected by the disc design and materials and little to do with the pressure plate.
