Running the car without o2 simulator

Right now my evo IX has the service engine light on. My car was recently flashed with turboback exhaust, o2 housing, k&n drop in filter, and mbc @21psi. The guy who worked on my car forgot to install the o2 simulator... So I went to autozone and the obd2 scanner pulled the catalyst efficiency code.

Is it safe to run the car without the o2 similulator? Could I do damage to the engine?

Yes its perfectly fine as long as the actual o2 sensor is plugged in. A lot of people don't even bother with fixing the service engine light when removing the cat.

Well the o2 sensor and the o2 simuator was originally plugged into my cat delete but the sensor was facing the ground and too close to the floor (scared it would get ripped off by a speed bump ) so we moved it to the bung in the exhaust piping of the greddy TI. Maybe he was just worried the o2 simulator and o2 sensor would have clearance issues so he removed it? Anyone with greddy ti have clearance issues with the o2 simulator and o2 sensor on the bung?

yes the o2 sensor is plugged in.

Thanks i know this is a newb question but its a brand new car.

A trick I used was to take the sensor and use a big worm gear clamp and clamp it to the outside of the exhaust. So long as it's electrically plugged in, everything is fine.

The only problem you'll have if you leave it in is getting it all clogged up with "soot". I ran mine for awhile like that and now it's dead. lol
What really sucks is I have to get my inspection sticker at the end of the month and have to drop $200 on a new o2 sensor so I can get rid of the CEL.
I have heard that the anti fouler trick works better than the simulator on th IX's.
The rear o2 sensor is there strictly for emissions. All's it does is tell the ECU if your cat is working properly and to throw a CEL if it's not. It will NOT affect you driveability or performance.
Also, if you have a laptop, you don't need a scanner. Buy yourself a tactrix cable and you can not only scan and reset codes but you can flash too.
