question about dumping the clutch.....

I know dumping the clutch is had for the drivetrain and I've done it 2-3 times on accedent....my question is.....when I did dump the clutch...I spun the tires and my neighbor told me that since they broke loose it took a lot of pressure and damage off of the drivetrain....is he right? I'm going to just slip the clutch from now on and if I burn it I burn it...atleast its cheaper than a tranny...what exactly gets damaged when u drop the clutch? And is my neighbor right about the tires breaking loose taking damage away? Thanks

Also my 2 step is set at 6k is that too high?

I have heard that it is rough on the center Diff and also the open front LSD on VIIIs. I am like you though better to burn a clutch than a trans.

I dumpped twice. And I heard the tires break and spin but people outside said I just took off like a bat out of hell. And I was racing a mustang gt with a 250 shot. Cammed and bolt ons.

I do belive it will cause major tranny and tcase problems.....but u have to wear it down. If you do it a lot then soon enough it will fail.
But I did it twice. Nothing hurts except your tranny strain and tcase

Never dump - thats a sure way to hurt something - usually your wallet...

5k, 5.5k, 6k -- all depends on how well you can use it. I use the stock 5k, it works well for me, for others it doesnt.

2step - here is my tech:

assuming you have the stock clutch? it's not going last very much longer, heck $800 or so to have AMS replace the stock clucth, but since it's AWD, when you launch like that, get ready to have your transfer case rebuild soon, and possibly the rear differential too, it probably won't break right away, you may still have a few thousands miles before you have to rebuild them, depends on how often you launch. BTW, what is your VIN number, just want to make sure I won't buy your car any time soon.

Just because he did a hard launch doesnt mean his rear diff and t-case is only going to last a couple thousand more miles. You dont get x amount of hard launches before a rebuild.

He could be fine for a long long time just as long as he changes his driving style now.

Just slip it really fast, thats what works best for me, I have an '03 with 60k on the original clutch, and about 80 launches. I never broke anything, and am getting a new clutch and a shep tranny just because. Well, I did break the 4th and 2nd gear syncros, that the reason for the tranny build.

Allow less restriction for the pressure that actuates the clutch disk when you let off the pedal, it makes it ten times easier to effectely control the clutch.

This little pill slows the flow of hydraulic clutch fluid actually delaying the engagement of the clutch.

When you lift off the pedal, the clutch has not fully engaged the flywheel, so if you accelerate too quickly after changing gears, the clutch will slip against the flywheel until the little pill allows it to fully engage. Over time, this will lead to excessive wear on the clutch, and was undoubtedly the cause of all of the clutch problems when the Evo first came to the US.

Removing the clutch restrictor results in quicker, more precise engagement of the clutch, so when you lift off of the pedal, the clutch actually engages fully, thusly allowing you to drive the car more agressively without fear that the clutch will suffer excessive abuse from slipping due to this little restrictor pill.
